View from my pension
by jenn_d
I remember arriving into town before sunrise. The town was still asleep and I felt as though I had the entire island to myself. After I found my pension I sat in the window overlooking the harbor and watched the sun come up and the daily ebb and flow of life begin.
Chania...just right!

"Chania - My base for Western Crete"
I stayed in Chania for 5 nights and used it as a nice base for exploring Western Crete. It is an ideal town to stay in as a jumping off point to Samaria Gorge, Balos, Elafonisi....
"Wander the harbour..."
The Venetian harbour is the center of Chania. Tourists, locals, and dogs wander amid the tavernas, bars, and souvenier shops. Food is overpriced here, but the views make up for it. I'd suggest settling into a comfortable chair with a frappe or something stronger & watch the sun set & the world go by. Enjoy a good meal at a reasonable price elsewhere.
