Poseidon Resort Loutraki: Tempting Packages, -A memorable Stay!
Loutraki is only an hour’s drive from Athens and we came here a little after 11:00 am.
Reception: The staff polite and professionals.
Resort: Really huge, set on an amphitheatric slope covering 150 hectares of surrounding gardens. A choice of amazing villas, bungalows, suites and studios with prices varying depending on the location and amenities offered. The gem of the resort is the new wing called “Esperides”. It is obvious that the creator had an artistic feeling. Even pathways are designed with hack value.
Room: We had the panorama villa #118 a bungalow overlooking the Gulf of Corinth with the most amazing sunsets. The room was spacious and nicely decorated, simple and at the same time elegant. The ones who dream of soft mattress beds will be disappointed because our bed was hard just like I prefer it to be. Only the pillows were fluffy! The satellite TV set had plenty of channels to choose from but with this stunning view we only switched it on to watch the news once. No coffee facilities in the room. It was a corner bungalow so the balcony was huge with a bamboo set of chairs matching with the small round table and reclining chairs.
Bathroom: It was roomy with a huge mirror making the room look double, included a Jacuzzi, robes, beach towels and a magnifying corner mirror. Bath towels and robes were white ok, but heavy and at times threadbare – some need renewal! Toiletry products varied –Top Star brand which is Greek. Once we got (Skin Essentials, but also an Italian product (One for You) body lotion. With regret I noticed that for two persons they give 2 shampoos and only one bath gel and no salts or anything extra for the Jacuzzi but I asked the lady to replace shampoo with bath gel at least! I recommend that guests should ask for some extras in case they need them instead of complaining.
Restaurant: American breakfast is offered each morning from 7:30 to 10:00 am and a continental one after 10:00 am. This means that if you get after 10:00 you won’t find the variety you might expect to find so you should better know about it. Breakfast was adequate with various things to choose from but surprisingly I found the cakes hard each single morning just like other guests commended negatively on their reviews. The staff, -a bunch of youngsters seemed a bit tight-assessed due to their supervisor Mr. George Tsoupas who is alert checking with the needs of the restaurant going here and there all the time and calls the waiters to do this and that. They are efficient however, very helpful and know well their job. George looks quite tensed himself and never smiles which is negative.
Cuisine: It is ok I can say, but honestly I expected a better presentation at least and a bigger variety and better taste out of a 5* hotel. Of course with the economic crisis and the state of the economy in Greece right now I would say that the food was adequate, and since accommodation stay is so low we, the guests should not be that demanding. We should be more fare with these people and give them credit –the owners are under these dreadful circumstances the country is into and still trying to give the best they can to offer good services. Have in mind that I don’t judge the hotel as I would have judged it if the situation had been different. I do justice with the management at this moment and I am sure the majority of guests who are out here might have never had the chance to book in this specific resort if the situation was otherwise. You see, the H/B packages are unbelievably low contrary to what the hotel demanded some years back before the crash. So, guys -and I refer to the ones who are always nagging for this and that, please have the above in mind and be realistic and more fair.
Fitness Centre and Spa: It is located on a separate building at the very end of the resort close to the Volley-ball and basket-ball courts. Christina who is the lady in charge of the different treatments is a qualified professional. She showed me around at first and I had the most comforting relaxing body massage and a face treatment which I highly recommend. She used the gold facial mask which is so refreshing that I could feel this change on my face hours later.
Beautiful gardens: Villas and bungalows are spread among amazing gardens, decorative pathways with illuminated pillars in the evening, romantic spots to sit and watch the stunning sunsets. There are huge palm trees, lots of pine trees, kalmias and oleander bushes, bougainvilleas, jasmine, night flowers, several kinds of cactus, and many more. I am sure that if you get here you will not want to leave the premises even with so many places of interest around!
Children’s club: There is a supervised mini club for kids, -another dreamy spot for the little ones.
Beach guard: There are beach guards all the time and one of them is Maria whom I met. She is also an entertainer in the kids club. If a guard is not seen sitting on the top chair by the pool it does not mean that no one is out there. These people are all over.
Chapel and the open air theatre: There is a chapel in the resort’s grounds for wedding venues that take place out here and the most amazing open air theatre ideal for opening ceremonies -a remarkable venue area.
Amazing coast: The beachfront is really worth every penny out here. There are several different coves ideally designed to meet the demands of every guest. These private little coves are hardly found in other resorts some with pebbles others sandy, with lots of sun beds in beautiful shady spots and plenty of umbrellas. The very last coast on the right behind the pier -my favorite one, was the one with the negative comments because of some sea-urchin (echinus) found on rocks. Here the waters have the clear crystal turquoise color and the presence of such creatures is a guarantee of the purity of water. With 7 other coves in the resort I find it stupid to comment negatively about this specific beach as if there is nowhere else to swim. Personally it was my piece of cake, and the one I liked most.
Sports: The hotel provides a variety of optional sport and outing activities. I have seen scuba divers but there are activities for the most demanding sportsman/woman.
Internet connection: There is an ADSL Internet connection in all rooms but internet is not free here. For an hour’s connection the cost is 5 euros and for 10 it is 15 euros. What I recommend is to pay 30 euros and have internet connection throughout your stay which is possible.
Site-seeing: Loutraki is a destination for all tastes and senses - a city that never sleeps throughout the year round. There is so much to see and do here –a city for the most demanding visitor. Famous for its SPA geothermal springs, its Casino nights for some entertainment its “blue flag” beaches, amazing sand and rocky coasts ideal for all sorts of sports and stunning sunsets. A visitor can take a short drive to the Cornith canal, have a day’s trip to the Heraion lagoon, visit the ancient Temple of Apollo, the Lake of Vouliagmeni (don’t get confused with the one in Attica) and at the same time have a religious and spiritual retreat. Visit a couple of the several monasteries which are in short proximity one close to the other with the most famous that of St. Patapios where his relic is out there inside the cave.
In all, the resort can be the base for exploration, ideal for a short break or a longer stay, beach holidays and I highly recommend it.
