The old bridge
by AndyRG
It joins Euboea to Sterea, the continental land in central Greece. It was first made in 540 (by wood) and renovated in 1858, 1894, 1962. It is the best point to observe the ebb and flow of the water, next to Euripus river.
Since 1992, a modern bridge is used by cars and makes the trip 15' shorter.
Budapest?

Halkida looks like... Budapest, as it has been built between the two sides of Euripus sound, which divides the city in 2 parts. Except walking in these both sides (the best way to discover any city), you can visit the Archaeological Museum.
Chalkida and surroundings

"Dreamy beaches and typically Greek flair"
This part of Greece is mainly visited by Greek tourists, most of them making holiday from Athens. I was there for Easter and I was given the chance to visit the Epitaphos-ceremony on Good Friday (Megali Paraskevi).
Chalkida's position is spellbinding, since this town is surrounded by the sea, linked to the shores via bridges, and built on a channel where the direction of the flow changes every 6 hours throughout the year. The promenade is picturesque and full of stylish & trendy cafes, meeting points for the Greek youth every night.
"Chalkis Beach Promenade (Paralia)"
Like a suburb of Athens...

Chalkis (Halkida) is the capital of the prefecture of Euboea.
Euboea is a large island in the centre of Greece and Halkida is joined to the continental land by 2 bridges.
The city is 80 km north of Athens (55.000 inhabitants). Euripus sound is famous for the ebb and the flow which are interchanged all the time there.
Halkida is a lovable destination for Athenians, as it is near Athens and the city is interesting. It is the homeland of famous Greeks like Skaribas (poet), Skalkotas (composer), Makris (actor), Mitaras (painter)...
CHALKIDA

Chalkida is Evia's capital. Evia is the second largest island of Greece.
If you want to go there just take the Athens- Lamia highway. A bridge carries traffic across Evripos.
Visit the archaeological museum. You can admire the headless statue of the goddess Athena as well as the abduction of Antiope by Theseus.
