Eretria
Eretria is situated in the South of Evia,opposite Attiki and can be reached either from Chalkis' bridge which is 95km or from Oropos which is 45 km and after by ferry-boat which will take half an hour.
"History"
Eretria was very well-known since ancient times and it was a really lively and wealthy city since it participated in the Troiam war.Its competition against Chalkis during the 8th century B.C.lead it to the disastrous Lelantian war.
At around 500 B.C.it joined the Minor Eastern lonian cities' campaign against the Persians. The city was destroyed by Artafertis because of this.Ten years later Eretria joined the Greeks in the battles of Salamina, Platees and Artemisio but after the Cheronia battle, Eretria was occupied by the Macedonians.The Romans conquered and destroyed the city in 198 B.C. since when its decay began.
In 1824 refugees arrived from the destroyed Psara,so it was called New Psara. After the liberation the struggle for it's gradual reconstruction begins.
