Agios Minas
by Skipka
The biggest church in the city with capacity of 8000 people. Dominant of Herakleion and really unique interior. Such a wonderful frescos and decorations. I have been there during the mass and that is the best time to see it, everything is in light and accoustics is fantastic. The building is very impozant and doesn't fit to any camera. :) In front of the side venting to Platia Ekaterinis there is a small bomb probably from WW II (my explanation), but I don't know why. There is no info about it. If anyone of you know about it let me know.

Hike to the Rouvas canyon
by Elena_blue
Rouvas canyon is on the south side of Psiloreitis mountain. Come here to enjoy hiking in a fabulous mountain scenery.
The path starting-end point is on lake Zaros (see relevant off the beaten path tip), about 50 klms south of Heraklion. The distance to cover is about 5klms to arrive to a plateau with st. John church and also the same distance backwards. It took us totally about 5 hours to enjoy it on a slow pace.
BE CAREFUL: In Crete hike either early in the morning or in the afternoon. The heat during daytime is high and you are in the danger of sunstroke.

Morosini fountain
by MATIM
Second famous site seeing object is the Morosini fountain build in 1628 and owns it’s name of a Venice governor.
The fountain is situated at the Platia Venizélou at the end of the busy commercial street Odós Ikosipénde Avgoústou.
Across the fountain is a nice restaurant, we went upstairs and had a nice view over the square.
Cathedral of Agia Minas and Agia Ekaterinas
by Balam
After getting to the end of 25th August St we turned right and walked down Leof kalorkerinou then turned left up a small side St to Agia Ekaterinis Square.
We walked across the square and down the side of Agia Ekaterini which the guide book says is now a Theological Museum but was closed; we entered the much more impressive and very much larger Agios Minas Cathedral. Beautifully decorated, and with many fine Byzantine Icons.
