A very mediocre hotel

We recently stayed at the Galaxy for 4 nights during a conference I was attending in Heraklion. We were 3 people (myself, spouse, and son) sharing a room and this was my first visit to Crete. In my opinion, there are pros and cons about the hotel. The pros: other attendees who have been to Heraklion several times before said the Galaxy is good relative to other options; the free internet service works very well from the rooms and lobby; the location is close enough to the city center to walk easily but far enough away that it is fairly quiet. The cons: the rooms and pool could be cleaner; some of the staff were quite unhelpful although others were quite nice; the breakfast was very mediocre; parking can be quite difficult at times.
In summary, although this hotel was booked by the conference, next time I would consider other options including staying outside Heraklion which is not nearly as nice as the rest of Crete.

I am writing this review as a courtesy to the other members of Tripadvisor who travelled and took the trouble of writing their reviews, which were very helpful in organizing my Greece trip.
The Galaxy Hotel might have been once a nice, upscale hotel, but now I would not recommend to anyone to stay there. The hotel is obviously worn out and in great need of upgrading: the room was not very bad (a 2 1/2* rating in Canada), average clean, but the bathroom was in a pretty bad shape, with the shower doors ready to fall, dirty in the corners (mildew). The worst part was the AC, which is old and does not blow cold air, it is more a low flow fan. Given the outdoor temperatures in the 40 degree Celsius range, the temperature in the room was about 37°C. We tried changing rooms, but the AC was the same in the other 4 rooms we visited.
Breakfast was not bad, the only complain I have is the Orange juice which was not natural, but some chemical concoction that only resembled the colour of orange juice.
All in all, we were extremely disappointed and would never go back to this hotel unless a major upgrade is performed.
New Luxury in Heraklion

Recently renovated the Galaxy Hotel became the first-class address in Heraklion to be spoiled in luxurious ambience.
Infrastructure and equipment are modern, stylistically very attractive. Spacious rooms and suites invite you to feel well.
Owners and staff are very courteous, and the service is perfect.
One highlight is to enjoy the exceptionally tasty dishes, for example during a dinner for two, together with friends or business partners.
In Heraklion and surroundings I never enjoyed a comparable experience.
The Galaxy Hotel and its exceptional ambience is the new recommendation for Heraklion.
We just loved the place!

This is a great hotel just outside the old city walls. Wonderful amenities, rooms are large and well appointed. The breakfast buffet was very generous, and the service up and down superb. The kids loved the pool. We stayed for two nights and had a great time. Short walk to the center of town where all the restaurants are, etc. Would recommend to anyone planning to visit Crete for a couple of days. Hotel staff helped us secure a one day tour of ancient sites, etc as well.
