Heraklion airport is only 4km from the town so it doesn't take long to reach the centre. I don't know where Bus Station B is exactly, but I would think that 20 minutes is OK unless there is a traffic jam of course.

The Venetian fort

by duke0123

The harbour with the Venetian Fort is a nice place to visit.

The harbour with the boats and at the end of the pier the Venetian Fort is interesting because of the walk. Form the fort you have a wonderful view over the harbour.

When you walk to the fort you can see a rusty wreck of an old ship lying in the water.

Minoan women fresco

The legends goes like:
Knossos palace was built for king Minos by Daedalus, in the depth of it was hiding his son, the bloodthirsty Minotaur. Athens was paying to the monster a tribute. Each year they were sending seven young girls and boys to be eaten by Minotaur. The prince of Athens, Theseus, decided to save his town of this painful tribute. He arrived to Crete and went to king Minos. But Ariadna, the daughter of Minos fell in love with Theseus and gave him a clew. This helped him not to get lost in the labyrinth. In returning home, Theseus, in his excitement, forgot to change the sails on the ship from black to white. The King of Athens saw the black sails. Thinking that his son’s plan failed and that Theseus was dead, the king flung himself into the sea and died.

Heraklion (Iraklio)

by grayfo

Heraklion, capital city is also the commercial and business heart of Crete. Heraklion is a place to visit not to stay in, unlike the rest of Crete it is a huge, dusty and noisy place with ships, liners, ferries and airplanes constantly coming and going. Most of the major attractions, shops and restaurants are within walking distance of each other in the city centre.

Its name is also spelled Herakleion or Iraklio, for hundreds of years the city was called referred to as Candia.
