If you want to take a little break just sit here in this park. Locals often just sit here and enjoy sunset or watching children playing. When we were the important match in soccer right in front of the entrance of Agios Titos.
Main airport is in Irakleion. Lots of international scheduled flights, and a terrific summer traffic made of charter flights from anywhere in Europe.
Buses go almost everywhere. Car hire is easy, but I'd rather book it in advance if you're planning your holidays in July-August.
Overlooking the "local" side of the Venetian port there are worse places to sit and chill - I didn't actually find ANY WORSE ONES, perhaps there aren't!!

The Venetians began construction of the city walls in 1462 and they took more than a century to complete. The walls are about 4km in length and of a triangular shape with seven bastions.
The walls proved their worth when the city was besieged for 21 years, one of the longest sieges in history. The final surrender came in 1669 but only after over 100,000 Turks and 30,000 Venetians had been killed.
it is hard to get the imense scale of these walls into scale by just a photograph, they are massive and very impressive. the videos show them much better.

The Jesus Gate
I studied in Crete, Irakleion for three months...I never forget that little island and the people who live there! Unforgettable beaches, landscapes, mountains... Island of diversity..you can ski and dive at the same day!!
Irakleion is the capital of Crete and even though it´s not the most beautiful city in the island it´s still the closest one to my heart!
