Just down the street
When ground was broken for this hotel, most of my Greek neighbors and I were quite chagrined. Prior to that event, Kokkini Hani was a small village of a couple hundred people about 12 kilometers east of Heraklion with one taverna and a couple Greek-style convenience stores. We knew that with the new international airport almost complete, that Crete, Heraklion, and Kokkini Hani as we knew them were well on their way to becoming history.
I never stayed at the completed hotel but had several friends who did, with mixed reviews. I did eat at their restaurant occasionally and their food was usually pretty good but their efforts to carry an international menu probably detracted from everything, especially indigenous Greek and Cretan delights.
