More about Aquis Agios Gordios Beach Hotel
Corfu Hotel Aghios Gordios
My partner and I have just come back from a week away (October)
We found that the area was very quiet and not much going on, lots of steps.
Not many shops
Lots of places to eat
The locals were friendly.
Hotel reps were very heplful and friendly and at hand .
Hotel enterainment was more suitable for 45+
Hotel rooms were clean but a bit out dated
Hotel food overall was good but some nites were not to good
OVERALL THE RESORT IS CHILLED
very nice clean apartments but tend to be really cold & damp in the evening no matter how high the temp reaches outside. Also be aware that these apts are situated at the top of a very steep hill in a resort called aghios Gordios so they are not suitable for the fainthearted. terrific view
A LITTLE GARDEN OF EDEN
We stayed at the Villa Bridge in Aghios Gordios from 12th to 26th May 2008.
We booked the Holiday thru Manos Travel and paid a total of £604 for the two of us for the two weeks, this included all the extras, fuel surcharge, Airport taxes etc etc. Flying from East Midlands.
The Villa Bridge is located at the Southern end of Aghios Gordios, and can be reached either by walking along the Beach Boardwalk, or thru the paved fottpaths thru the back of the Village. Either way you are about 5 to 10 mins from the Street with the Tavernas, or one minute from the beach, about 50 yards.
The accomodation is set in its own gardens, there are two Bungalow type buildings.
The first nearest the gate comprises a Studio for two, and a Two Bedroomed apartment that sleeps 4.
The second building has a One Bedroom Apartment, this was ours, this is attached to the owners apartment, where the very friendly couple live, Elenas and her husband, also their cat, they also have a dog that lives at the bottom of the garden, we never heard him Bark so no problem.
Our one bedroom apartment comprised of, entry door into Kitchen Diner, this was very well equiped, more than we are used to on our Greek holidays. There was a Table and chairs for 4, A FULL Cooker (only used to two ring unit). Electric Kettle (No umbriki, greek kettle), an Electric Toastie maker, did not use. Full sized Fridge. Double sink unit, plenty of hot water and a PLUG.
There are plenty of storage, and crockery and cutlery for two.
To the left is a door to the Bath room, again more than we are used to. Toilet, Sink, Bath with overhead shower and shower curtain, "WHAT NO WET FLOORS" I hear you Greekophiles shout. Plenty of Hot Water at all times of the day.
To the right of the kitchen is a good Bedroom with, wait for it, A KING SIZED DOUBLE BED, not two singles shoved together. Sheer heaven for those Romantic Greek Nights, well be may have been married 38 years but we still love each other like crasy.
There was a large 3 doored wardrobe, Dressing Table with draws and two bed side tables.
Also plenty of electric points and lights.
Outside the front door is a small patio area that looks out onto the Garden.
For the gardeners amonst you you will love it, Flowers , Roses, trees include Lemon, Orange, Cherry & Olive, There is a Banana Plant. A vegtable plot and little lawns.
All kinds of Birds are attracted to the Garden.
The owners cat comes to visit but will not be fussed, will just sit and watch you, no problem.
The location is very quiet, and is not on anyones going home route, so quiet nights sleep are very nice. In fact when the sea was calm the only noise at night would be if a Leaf Fell from a Tree, you heard it hit the ground it was that quiet.
Elenas made us a Cake in the first week, a maderia with lots of Honey soaked into the base, very good.
Elenas Cleans and airs the apartment most days with changes of Towels and Bedding twice a week.
There is a path that leads directly to the Beach by the side of the Garden.
So I would be more than Happy to stay here again and again A lovel rustic garden with flowers, herbs, trees and vegatable plot.

Nice yellow house on the place with incredible view.

Aghios Gordios beach, Corfu
One of the most beautiful places at Corfu Island is absolutelu Agios Gordios on the west coast aprox. 17 km from the city of Corfu. This place is realy amazing. Advantages of Aghios Gordios: 1) Landscape; 2) Nature and forest; 3) Air; 4) Golden sandy beach; 5) clearness and color of the sea; 6) Fantastic village ambience. I think it's enough.
I have been twice to the Aghios Gordios hotel and it is a truly magical place. The beaches are fabulous and I have stayed both in the hotel and in the bungalows and both were of excellent quality and standard. We are going back there again with other members of the family in 2006.
We have just returned from a great 2 week holiday at the Aghios Gordios Hotel! After reading some of the very negative reviews of this hotel, I wondered if in fact we were at the same hotel!!! We first holidayed here about 14 years ago and enjoyed it so much that this was a return visit, and we have decided to return yet again one day in the future. This hotel does not deserve the negative reviews. The staff and all the reps were friendly and helpful, our room was in a very good state of cleanliness and decoration, and the food was excellent! I would add that we have travelled the world, and have sampled many, many hotels, and in my opionion, the Aghios Gordios is up there with the best! The plumbing is it's Achillies heel, but that is Greece for you. Accept it and enjoy!
We had a great time at the aghios gordios. What a great sea view and good location. The food was good and the buffet menu was varied. The management were helpful when we asked for advice regarding my husband's gluten free diet. You can dine in the poolside waiter service restaurant (extra charge) iIf you wish ,for a change. The pool was of a good size with plenty of sunloungers and parasols ,which are available free of charge. The entertainment was excellent with a very hard working team and the cleanliness level at the hotel was of a good standard. There are walks in the area to some other traditional greek villages and the scenery is stunning, not for people with mobility problems though, due to the hilly location. The local bars and restaurants are a ten minute walk away and there is a good choice ,from traditional greek tavernas to mexican, chinese and a few music and sports bars. The only grumble - We felt the drinks at the hotel were expensive, but this is usually the norm for many hotels.A great holiday and we would return again.
Good Food, Staff and Location
If you haven't been there and are worried by the reviews, don't be! We made the mistake of reading them and even tried to cancel. Glad we never. First time to Corfu. Beautiful island. OK, so the rooms are a little tired and need refurbishment but the public rooms were presentable and the restaurant excellent. Don't know why people complain about the food. More than enough fresh, local and international food. The waiters/resses were brilliant. Attentive and friendly without being overbearing and condescending.
Yes, there's loads of steps but it does say it. Quite frankly, when we were there (last 2 weks in June '05) it was a bit like a 'Saga' holiday and if the oldies can do it, then so can the young ones. While you're feeling fit, do the walk that one of the reps leads (go on your own, we only got slightly lost twice). Use the local bus to go to Corfu Town, it costs peanuts and is comfortable and air conditioned.
Drinks are slightly dearer than some of the bars in the village, but 3euro for a beer, well, you are on holiday! IF you're counting the pennies then bring some wine/beer back with you from the village and put it in your fridge. There is a happy hour - although beer, annoyingly isn't included and it ends abruptly 1 minute to seven!
As for the charges for towels and TV remote...they are only DEPOSITS. You get the money back. The only one you pay for is the safety deposit...why? It seemed that most people kept their passports at the reception and use the cashpoints if you need more money. It's not Britain so it's quite honest.
Downside...charges for sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach (8 euros for the day), there are too many sunbeds around the pool so there is no personal space. It's a bit better on the sun terrace but unfortunately - even though it's only Brits at the hotel - people have got into the annoying German habit of bagging beds before breakfast with their towels and turning up hours after.
Beautiful views. Nice beach. Some lovely restaurants on the beach - our favourite was something like 'Zepharus' or similar - try the greek lunch for two, a meze, lovely bread and a passable carafe of wine for 14euros.
Ignore the bad reviews on this site!
OK. If you're wondering about cancelling this hotel please DO NOT! The hotel and it's staff were excellent, obliging and very friendly. The rooms were a little dated but the air conditioning was a lifeline in July. The rooms were clean and visited each day by the cleaning staff. There are indeed lots of steps to negotiate but what do you expect if your hotel is bulit onto the side of a cliff? The positive side to the location is the fantastic views of the beach, and the sunsets - wow! There are numerous lifts within the hotel and the public areas are large and pleasant. The hotel shop has most things you require and, as is to be expected, slightly more expensive than the village. There was a fridge in the rooms so you can buy in the village and chill at the hotel.
There is a library near reception with a variety of books for you to borrow. These have been left by previous guests not wanting to get caught out on the additional weight luggage charge on the way home.
This resort is very laid back and the village can be accessed after a pleasant ten minute walk along the 'boardwalk' on the beach. This is not a place to come if you want loud music and clubbing. There are some lovely bars in the village 'The Lemon tree' (quite expensive) and 'Time out' opposite the lemon tree were particularly nice.
Beware of the mosquitoes! There is an increase in the little biting insects this year so if you must pack one thing it is repellant.
There was a wide variety of excellent food for breakfast and lunch but my favourite meal was the a la carte meal. This is included in the price but if you would like another a la carte meal during your stay it is only 6 euros additional per person which is excellent value.
The percentage of people were of the older age variety! But this gave the hotel a friendliness between guests. Many a smile and goodmorning was exchanged.
The Thomson gold team were fantastic. There was always something to do if you're that way inclined and they didn't pester you if you were not.
The beach was excellent and very safe. Snorkling is fantastic and the first taverna you come to 'Alexises' was brilliant during the day but deserted at night. Most people stayed at the hotel or went to the village.
Overall a fantastic and exceptionally relaxed holiday. Would definitely return to this hotel.

We are travelling to Aghois Gordios in May and wanted to know what the nightlife is like in the town and what the weather is like in early May?
Re: Aghios Gordios
Can't help with the nightlife but you can get an idea of what weather to expect (no-one can tell what the weather will be like so far ahead) from the climate averages here:
All being well it should be pleasantly warm with only a small chance of rain.
crete - agios gordios
i would really like some advice please! i have booked a holiday to agios gordios in corfu in irene apartments. we really want a quiet holiday but have recently found it is on the same beach as the pink palace hostel. are the two hotels close together? like on the same section of beach? if so, how close? and does irene apartments get loads of noise etc from the pink palace? im a bit worried now! thankyou, any info from anyone who has been there would be great!
taxi or bus to Paleo
My husband and I are going to Corfu in September. Does anyone know approximately how much will cost taxi from the airport or bus from Corfu-town to Paleocastritsa ?
Re: taxi or bus to Paleo
I had my car on Corfu so don't know about taxi fares. The first thing we did on arrival was head for Paleokastritsa, I think it's about 30 kms from Kerkira (Corfu City). There were plenty of taxis in Corfu City (though I imagine the fare for 30 kms would be high.)
Car rental would certainly be ideal on Corfu. I spent 8 days and drove all over, it was great being able to get everywhere. Stayed at Aghios Gordios on West Coast, on the sea, and drove to Corfu City every night for wonderful dinner of fresh, grilled fish, or in tavernas for roast chicken, yummy French fries and Greek salad etc. Always finished with coffee under the arcades (more like a cup of mud haha but I got into the ritual...:-)
If you can rent a car, don't hesitate. It's really worth it.
Have a great trip!
