Lefkimi - Sandwiches for sale ???
by Jerelis
Right after we parked the car we tried to grab a lunch. At a local bar called (we believe, can't remember proparly) Vegara, we tried to order some sandwiches. The owner tried to explain us in his best English that the sandwiches appear on the sign of the bar, but he didn't sell them! Bit of a weird situation, we guess. The owner stood next to our table and all of a sudden he went back into the kitchen and came back with 2 frozen pizzas and told us that this was the only thing he sold which could be eaten for lunch! So 20 minutes later we had 2 hot microwave pizzas on a plate! Well, with a nice cold beer it did taste okay :)
Right after this historical lunch we had a walk through this largest town southern of the city of Corfu. We passed a picturesque canal which divides the town into two. Lefkimi has two striking churches to visit. One is the Agios Theodoros Church facing the main square and the other is the Agios Arsenos Church with its orange dome. We were sorry to see that both churches were closed.

Akra Arilla

Akra Arilla (Cape Arilla) stands in the north west of Corfu, near the village of Afionas, north to Paleokastritsa. It is an amazing peninsula with the shape of a hook (photo 1).
The second photo, a close-up on the peninsula shows that a small house has been built on the shoulder of the hill, that can be accessed only by a footpath! Nice place, isn’t it?.
The third photo shows Akra Arilla from further south, almost from Paleokastritsa.
Corfu out of Season

Corfu is beautiful!!
We got a last minute "get away" from a travel agent - after the school holidays end the deals you can find are amazing! Seven days in a studio apartment ten minutes walk from the beach - perfect for relaxation, just too short a time!
"A Day in Corfu Town"
We stayed about 40 minutes south-west of Corfu Town and took a bus into town. Thankfully the visit was worth the amazingly bumpy bus ride!!
Corfu town lies between the Old Fortress and the New Fortress. This picture was taken from the Old Fortress looking over the town towards the New Fortress (which is barely newer than the old one, but what are a few years when you are hundreds old?!)
