Corfu Coastal Walk

by purrfect16

Hello - I'll be in Corfu for 1 day as part of a cruise in October. 7AM - 5PM. They offer a Corfu Coastal Walk tour (4 miles), but I'd like to see if we can do it ourselves. It starts in Nissaki. Does anyone know if buses run there, or if we'd have to get a taxi? (And how readily available they are by the port?)
The walk goes through Agni, Kalami, Kouloura, Kerasia and Agios Stefanos.
I'm not positive we'd be able to find the "path", but if anyone has done this and can give me some advice, it'd be helpful!

I did that walk over 20 years ago. It is not difficult and you are never very far from the main road so you can't really get seriously lost. I did use the KTEL buses, the ones that go to Kassiopi. The bus station has since moved so I don't know exactly where it is now or how it relates to a cruise ship stop.

Travel Tips for Corfu Island

BENITSES.

by funkymama

A cosmopolitan tourist resort with international fame, Benitses is for many the reason of their visit in Corfu. The once fish village has now turned into a summer resort with many hotel units.
It is only 12km from the city, located in the south part of Corfu. The tourist foundation of Benitses satisfies all tastes. The region is famous for its nightlife. It has many clubs and bars with greek and foreign music, as and clubs with live music for those wanting to stay up all night dancing.
The best spot of the village are its beaches with small pebbles that are highly organized and give you the chance to do water sports.
The region is of big archaeological interest, as in the yards of the families Kapsokavadi and Mprentatou were found the remains of a roman mansion and spa’s with murals.
It is worth visiting the museum of Sea, built in 1989 by the diver- collector Napoleinta Sagia. There were found shells, corals, sponges, fossils, jaws, etc.

MESSONGHI

by alyf1961

Messonghi is a short walk from Moriatika on the east coast of Corfu. From Moriatika you can walk along the beach to the mouth of the river. At the river, a rowing boat will take you across for 1 euro. Messonghi is quieter than Moriatika with not as many restaurants and bars.

archeological museum

by mindcrime

The Archeological museum is located at the Garitsa gulf in a small -two story- neoclassical building.
The museum was built in 1962 (and founded in 1967) to house finds from the ancient temple of Artemis (one of the most interesting discoveries is the Gorgo’s petiment of this temple that dates from 6th century BC) but during the 90s the collection expanded and now it covers different periods (prehistoric, archaic, roman, classical, Hellenistic) with many statues, coins, potteries, tools, findings from burials at the cemetery of Garitsa and household items.

The museum is open Tuesday to sunday 8.30-15.00 and the entrance fee is 3euros. There is also a ticket that costs 8euros and includes entrance to Archeological museum, the Old Fortress, Asian Art Museum, and Byzantine Museum
