A day out in Corfu Town

We stopped at Corfu Town from a cruise ship and we had the most fabulous day.

If you want amazing fabulous shopping, and an all round fantastic day then you will love Corfu town.

The atmosphere within the walled town is lovely, everyone is warm and friendly - they love you going into their shops, but don't hassle you if you don't buy anything.

I bought lovely summer dresses, a hand knitted shawl, a long chain for a pendant and lots of other things. Leather goods are good and the items are generally well made and inexpensive. You pay similar prices to at home, but for items that you would not find at home. We had a lovely meal, one course, several soft drinks for two people at 20 Euros and it was one of the best meals I've had!

You will really enjoy Corfu town, but it is not a place for the less mobile - lots and lots of steps.

Very nice view, good food and friendly staff!
This is, in my opinion, a much better choice, then the restaurant up on the top of Kaiser's Throne. The service is a lot faster, it's easier getting a table and the view is almost as nice!

(Alexandros was mentioned in the Lonely Planet Guide "Greek Islands".)

P.S. Alexandros also has room to let.

Olive groves near Paleokastritsa

Corfu is well known for its magnificent olive trees. Some can be very old. The one on the first photo is certainly several centuries old as well as the one on the second photo.

The third and fourth photos show younger trees but each of them stands on its private terrace built with the stones that along the centuries were taken out of the soil to leave only a tiny space of good land, just enough for the roots of one olive tree !

Photo 4 shows also a narrow paved path that climbs between two dry stone walls.

I've been visiting Greece for the past 30yrs. Over the last few years things have gone grim!!! Too many people, too much building, too many greedy taverna owners.
If you want to find real Greece, go to an Island that takes more than a day to get to. Try little Symi or Amorgos or even Leros.
Don't, repeat don't expect much of any Islands with an International airport.
