Shopping in Corfu
by seagoingJLW
the shopping here is phenominal. There are excellent prices on gold jewelry among other things. The shopping is so good that I had to put it under the general tips. Here you can see me heading for one of the stores while Irwin is talking to a friend.
Good for a quick bite.
by Jerelis about Paradise Garden
The resort at Moraitika has virtually merged with neighbouring Messonghi thanks to a strip of music bars car rental outfits and souvenir shops. At just only 100 meters from the beach and about 600 meters from the centre of Moraitika we found the Paradise Garden.
After a beautiful sunny day and exploring Ano Moraitika, with its steep lanes, we ended up in Moraitik and settled at Paradise Garden for a cool drink. The juice for Iris was fresh and quite Expensive (€3,50) and our beer was good!
Sadly many asociate Greek food with a bland soggy Mousaka, served with chips. It is true that during the 70's and 80's (Greece early tourist years), this was the case. Fortunately, things have changed dramatically. Paradise Garden offered varied menus and we tasted the freshest ingredients.
Paleokastritsa - Picturesque village.
by Jerelis
Paleokastritsa is a picturesque village situated on the northwest of Corfu. We read in our ravel book that:"It is one of the most celebrated beauty spots on the island; six small coves with incredibly clear water nestle in a coastline of hills and promontories draped in olive, cypress and lemon trees. Many claim that it was the site of King Alcinous's fabulous palace and the rock out to see, called Kolovri, is said to be the ship that carried Ulysses home." Time for a visit!
When we drove towards Paleokastritsa we found out that the surroundings are as beautiful as you will find in all of Greece. The lush green vegetation intrudes all the way to the shoreline where rugged rocks and the waves do their best to repel them. We drove through this hilly place full of twists and turns and unexpected views. Finally we ended up at the main coast road that winds among the cliffs and sheltered bays. We just followed the road and signs and were not able to miss Paloekastritsa.
Corfu: The Emerald Island
by Andreas_Fran
Corfu was not given the name of the Emerald Island for no reason. The greenest of all the Greek islands, Corfu's natural beauty is hidden under a cloak of emerald green, with a mountainous skyline plunging into the bluest of blue waters.
Elegant architecture, sunblessed beaches, enchanting nightlife and fine cuisine all play their part in attracting visitors from all over the world. With a welcome as warm as the sun, the renowned reputation the Greeks possess for their unique and instinctive hospitality makes any visitor feel more than at home. The island has something to offer everyone. Corfu Town itself is a contrasting combination of old and new existing side by side in perfect harmony.
There is an abundance of sand, shingle and pebble beaches lining the 200 km coastline, leading to clear waters ideal for swimming and water sports.
Take a little time to explore the island and you will be rewarded with some of the most spectacular scenery on offer by any destination. A trip into the heart of the island will give you an insight into Corfiot village life. Time, in some places, seems to have stood still and everyday life carries on pretty much as it must have done for hundreds of years.
Even though the island is constantly developing to cater to the demands of today's tourist, Corfu has still managed to retain its beauty and charm throughout time. The majority of the island remains untouched and as captivating as it has been for centuries.
Whether you are looking for the hustle and bustle of night life or peace and tranquillity, everything you could need is here, just waiting to be discovered.
