Corfu(Korfu) is one of the most beautiful Greek islands and is called Kerkyra(Kerkira,Korkyra) as well.
According to greek mythology, the island got its namefrom the daughter of the river god Asopos, nymfi Korkyra, who was carried away by Poseidon. In Homer's Odyssey we read that Odysseus found shelter in Corfu at the end of his wanderings and received the care of king Alkinoos and his people Pheaces and his daughter Nafsika.
Corfu, the island of endless natural beauty, the island of song and music, of unending inpiration, a combination of the cosmopolitan and the traditional. The island excites the visitors with unparalleded images.
Fantastic beaches as Agios Georgios,Myrtiotissa and Glyfada r going to make u crazy because of the nature.

Visit in early October

by Tricky_Dicky69

Hi, we are thinking about visiting Corfu for a week in early October and would like to know what the weather will be like and if this is a good time of year to visit.
Any help much appreciated.

will give you climate averages, so you can have a rough idea of what to expect. Should be very pleasant, in comparison with October UK at least.

a friend of mine was there in june for a week and it was raining non stop, I was there in april and we had a GREAT week full of sun :) you cant really tell what will be in october.

You'll love Corfu off season, the masses of tourists are gone and all the places work in normal level. Maybe (but not definitely) you have to forget the beaches (although you'll have them all for your own like we did in april) Corfu page is full of tips what to do there.

Travel Tips for Corfu Island

We drove up to Paleokastritsa to see the monastery but the general area is gorgeous because the small seaside town has some basic facilities if you want to stop for a while but also you can take a small boat or rent a paddle boat for the near by caves and cliffs. There were supposed to be many visitors around (most of them come for the majesty scenery) but off season the area seemed isolated so we just enjoyed the tall cypresses (great contrast against the blue Mediterranean waters) and some olive trees as everywhere in Corfu.

We made some photo breaks, one down at the beach from where we could see the Monastery hidden among the trees on the top of the rock (pic 1).

I’ve told you before about the legend that Ulysses stopped at Pontikonisi on his way to Ithaca but the guide books want some of Paleokastritsa beaches to be the one (ok, he was in Corfu for sure but without GPS it was difficult for Homer to have accurate coordinates :) If you are fan of the alternative myth (that Poseidon transferred Ulysses’ ship into stone) here you have an alternative of Pontikonisi, it’s called Kolovri and yes, it looks like a ship! (pic 2)

When we reached the Monastery, we parked our car and the first thing we’ve done was to check the breathtaking view and try to hold our breath as we were looking over the rock’s edge (pic 3). This is supposed to be the place where king Alcinoos had his palace but the archeologists haven’t found anything to prove it.

There is a cannon (pic 4) dating from the Russian/Ottoman occupation of the island and a path (pic 5) for those that are more adventurous types :)
