Day Trips From Corfu

by mandybailey

Hi.
I'm going to Corfu in June for 10 days and I wondered whether anyone can recommend any good day trips? Both on or off the island. I heard that you can get a boat to Albania?
Prices and stories would be great.
Thanks.

Paxos makes a good day trip from Corfu, but them I'm very biased - have a look at my Paxoi Island travel pages :)

It will mean a very early start, as the hydrofoil leaves Corfu at 7am (Tuesday-Saturday), but this will get you into Gaios for 8am, giving you plenty of time to explore the island. Avoid Wednesdays, since there's no return hydrofoil!

My suggested itinerary for the day would be as follows:-

Arrive Gaios 8am. Have breakfast in the main square and a wander around the harbourfront area, then catch the 10 o'clock bus to Loggos.

In Loggos, either head for the nearest beach (Levrechio) or have a walk up to the old mill for fantastic views of Loggos harbour, then catch the 11.50 bus into Lakka.

Explore Lakka and have a leisurely lunch in one of the many harbourside tavernas or cafes before catching the 2.15 bus back to Gaios. This will get you back to Gaios by about 2.45, giving you an hour or so to have a look around town before catching the return hydrofoil to Corfu at 4pm.

Be sure to check the bus timetable on arrival on Paxos. The one I used is a couple of years old and although it seems to have stayed the same for the last 12 years, you never know!

Yes boat trips are great, especially if you do the Beach BBQ, basically what it is, is a boat trip over to a small lovely Iowian Island and relax for a few hours and have a BBQ, a fantastic relaxing excursion. Who are you travelling with? If you are going with a tour operator ask your Rep whilst in your welcome meeting about The Beach BBQ they normally depart from Kassioppi (near to Roda, Archarvi & Sidari).

I often stay in Kalami and a couple of years ago went on a day trip to Albania. it was an organised trip with a coach collecting us very early in the morning and taking us to the port. Went on fast catamarran to Albania, about 40 mins. Collected by coach from the port and taken on an excursion with an extremely knowledgeable and fluent English speaking guide. Took us all over, included lunch and a trip to the Byzantine fort. Cost was about 25£ per head. If you go to Albania, be prepared for a country emerging from war and also it is extremely hot as it is mainland greece. We were exhausted at the end of the day but it was a fascinating place. Travel Tips for Corfu Island

Limni Karission

by 36waterfalls

Take a bus to Limni in the South, and enter this gorgious area of Lake Korissa. Near the sea is this salt water lagoon, a nature reserve, home to turtles, lizards and birds. You can walk in this area, or towards the sea, past the sand dunes to end up on this huge stretch of sandy beach. Relex, have a picnic (if you can stand the heat!), cool off in the water or go for a stroll. This is where the locals go and it's fairly quiet.

perfect pasta

by mickeyboy07 about Il Mare

A lovely little Italian restaurant in the centre of town, clean relaxed surroundings eat inside or have a table overlooking the sea for that romantic feel, service is very good with plenty of choice on the menu and the price is reasonable.Great place. I had the spaghetti oven special, thick pasta with cheese and ham in a creamy sauce baked in the oven,a very tasty and filling dish.

Benitses - Other attractions.

by Jerelis

Benitses is now a relatively quiet resort shrugging off its more hectic past, and now tends to appeal to couples. Benitses beach, or rather beaches, are a mix of pebbles, shingle and a little sand. The beach here tends to slope quickly to the sea which is impeccably clean and has been awarded an EU Blue Flag in recognition of its quality. Benitses beach has a good variety of water sports and jetties and platforms have been built for swimmers.

One of the attractions of the village is the a shell museum. On display are shells obviously. They say it's one of the best in Europe. The museum also has coral, shark's jaws, fascinating fishes, a large assortment of sea urchins and stuffed fish displayed.

For those who are fit enough there is a well marked walk up into the hills to see the natural water springs in a glade of plane trees. Well worth the effort and it's great to see the wildlife away from all the tourists! Be warned, take some water with you to drink because there are no shops up there.

Paleokastritsa

"Paleokastritsa"

Clean, Quiet as it was nearing the end of season, very picturesque, georgeos food and friendly locals.
Hired car - recommended. Go up into hills and villages. Over the hills takes you to the other resorts. Be carefull on roads.
Beach not very good. Sea very clean.
