We are going to Corfu on May 26 for one week. On yahoo weather they show showers and thunderstorm almost all this week and next week too!
What does this mean, a one hour shower per day and otherwise sunshine? I dont mind that, but if it rains 24/7...
This is a question for locals, how is it there now? How about the sea temperature?

Re: weather

Forecast here in Istanbul shows the same but we got sunshine so don't believe everything, look at the % of rainfall, less than 30 and ok, it can rain at night also.Sea temps around 17c at surface.

The 6 days forecast (May 21-26) of the Greek Meteorological Service concerning Western Greece talks about scattered rains (not 24/7) and mainly on evening time. It seems that during the above 6 days the weather will be slowly improving. Weather prediction in Greece can not be longer than a week.

Thanks, guys. I'm calmer now.
I think... last year I was just as worried about foreacasts before going to Kefalonia and it was not a drop. Hopefully here will be the same.

Travel Tips for Corfu Island

Kassiopi - Paleo Frouri - Byzantine fortress.

by Jerelis

We can honestly say that Kassiopi is a pretty harbour-side town, still dominated by the impressive ruins of its huge Byzantine fortress. Of course we wanted to see it with our own eyes, but we had some trouble to find our way towards it. Finally we found the path opposite of the church of Panaghia Kassiopitissa (Church of the Slessed Virgin Kassopitras) which took us to the ruined Byzantine fortress. It's abandoned to the whims of nature and the entrance is almost hidden by wild flowers.

The castle was built in the 14th century by the Angevin conquerors of Corfu. It was built to protect the town and its port and was guarding the sea route from Corfu to the opposite coast. The Venetians finally overran the castle and in revenge razed it almost to the ground, for fear of it falling into enemy hands. Finally the Venetians used the building material to reinforce the castle of the town of Corfu. But it's still worth visiting the remains of the vast walls and gatehouse, because it lead us to a vantage point offering spectacular views over Kassiopi's bay and up to Mount Pantokrator.

For us a funny fact was that once we were exploring the crumbling walls of this ruin Iris still had the half-demolished Byzantine fort of Gardiki in mind. She therefore looked all around for a goat! Unlucky for her we didn't find one and just enjoyed the views we had at this historical hillside overlooking the town.

Village of Kassiopi.

Situated at the north east side of the island. It is a 17 km drive from the capital of Corfu, Corfu Town.

Museum of asian art.

by funkymama

The museum of Asian art is roofed under the palace of Saints Michael and George's. It is an imposing building of British rhythm built during the period of 1819 to 1824 and was used as residence for each commissioner, as seat of the saints Michael and George's' knightly tagma and as seat of the Ionian Senate.
In the ground floor you will see historic heirlooms and furniture from the times of the Ionian Senate. In the first floor-among others- you will see the famous collection of asiatic art. It includes more than 10.000 exhibits, donations by Gregory Manos brought from China, Japan, India, Korea, Kamboji, Taiwan and Tibet.
Tickets 4£.

Corfu island

"Corfu's beaches"

The first image of Corfu Island is its beaches, but they are not sandy beaches, which is OK if you know about it in advance, but can be a slight disappointment if you expect a broad sandy coastline. The beaches are pebbly, with very small pebbles, and sometimes rocks and cliffs. The water is clean, but always take your beach loafers or better yet, buy a pair of beach shoes at the supermarkets (they are available everywhere) and don't go in the water without them. At south of Corfu island you will find beaches small and narrow, but northern resorts, like Sidari and Paleokastritsa have broader and longer beaches.
