Corfu Airport

by thehobbit_uk

We will be flying into Corfu in a couple of weeks and joining a cruise ship so are not too worried about ordering an inflight meal on the outward journey. However, our flight home is early evening and we're wondering whether it's best to book an inflight meal or whether there are restaurants or shops selling sandwiches, drinks, etc in Corfu airport. Just trying to plan ahead.
Many thanks
Kate

Kapodístrias Airport ( Corfu) is an international airport, with snackbar and coffeebar. You can have a sandwich and drink or coffee there.

If you're going to eat at the airport, go to the landside cafe before you go through passport control (but check your bags in first). It's up the stairs on the opposite side of the check-in hall fromt the entrance doors. It rarely gets crowded and has tables and chairs to sit at while you eat.

The airside snackbar is very basic with nowhere to sit, apart from the crowded departure lounge and it usually has very long queues to get served.

Thank you for this advice. We will be sure to check out the landside cafe after we've checked in our bags.

Many thanks

Travel Tips for Corfu Island

Hiking - Unlimited possibilities for hiking.

by Jerelis

The island of Corfu offers a number of things to do and activities from walking and hiking to sailing and golfing. Walking holidays are becoming more and more popular, nowadays, and Corfu offers unlimited possibilities for hiking. With its rich flora and fauna, dense vegetation and unspoiled countryside, Corfu is a real paradis for hikers. Except exploring of secret countryside paths, we admired the old villages with its inhabitants, which brought us to a different world.

If wanderlust grips your spirit, forget about the tourist-laden beaches, the fancy hotels and the nighclubs. We took ourselves to the hiking trails of Corfu and discovered the soul of the island. We noticed that the hiking paths were good of quality and therefore hiking the island is something which is possible to do for everybody! Just drive your car to a nice spot and stroll around. We did not stop hiking when the paths got difficult, because of little Iris (she was almost 2 years young at that time). She enjoyed herself, walked along and whenever she became tired she sat in a special bag at our backs and she also had the time of her life just looking around. Have a look at Corfu Packing List.

Paleokastritsa, THE landscape

by JLBG

Photo 1 shows the most famous landscape of Paleokastritsa with a couple of rocks standing out of a blue sea.

Photo 2 shows the to main rocks.

Photo 3 shows the larger rock, looking like a huge boat, with a tourists’ boat on the right, looking like a toy boat!

catholic cathedral SS.Iacobi Ap. & Christofori M.

by mindcrime

The catholic church is located at the small but beautiful square of Town Hall.
It was built in 1588, with the typical (during 16-17th centuries) baroque curve at the gable. It was destroyed the nazis’ bombs during WWII by later it was restored and decorated again. It is dedicated to apostle Jacob & marty St.Christopher. We spend a few minutes inside but the interior was very simple with some nice corners but nothing to get excited with like big wall paintings etc
The exterior is good though with a nice façade.

The cathedral houses six side chapels (of the blessed sacrament, of St.Theresa, of Virgin Mary of Health, of Christ the King, of the Immaculate Conception and finally of Saints Spyridon and Arsenios)
