"Malvasia Hotel" in Monemvasia: A magical location for a hotel!

by greekcypriot

Although I have not as yet spent a single night here, I have heard from friends so many good comments about this hotel.
I went inside and met the owner, and I am planning spending a night or two here soon.

The price of a room is logical compared to other hotels where I stay and spend more than 120 euros a night. Because the owners want people the whole year round the manager told me, they keep the price low. This made me think that here we have to do with clever people and not people who just want to take our money because we happened to book at their hotel, and then wait and wait for the next victim ....and who surely don't have much traffic!

There are rooms with fireplace for winter also. Of course not all rooms overlook the sea, but surely they have something else that makes them beautiful.

Built with stones from the surrounding area and with great respect to the history and character of the castle, .....this hotel impressed me so much.
The traditional element is combined with all the modern amenities in order to provide an unforgettable experience.

MANIATIS HOTEL: A Telecommunication Antena very near!

by greekcypriot

I checked out comments about this hotel and found both good and bad ones before coming here.
Indeed in some rooms the bathroom is really small, consisting of just a basin with a shelf above, a toilet and a shower tray with a curtain around it. This was my son's room.
The bathroom in our room however was much bigger with a bath tub. So somebody who books can demand to be given a bathroom with a bath tub. The room is the same, but the entrance is not so narrow.
Something else that not many visitors notice, is that there is a Telecomunications Antena so very near the hotel. It can be seen if you open some windows at the back yard. This is so dangerous causing headaches to people who are under this (umbrella). Most of the people who were with us including myself experienced headaches while here! Not many people notice it. At first I thought it was in the premises of the hotel, but it is on a very close building. This is dangerous especially if you plan to stay more than one day here.

Centrally located, considered to be modern, and located on the main street of Sparta is a good value for money....although at the back of the door I read that the room costs 100 euros, I have no idea what the travel agent agreed to pay! We paid much less of course.
Breakfast was plentiful, the room was clean and although it was in the main street there was no noise at all.
I don't recommend it to people who will spend more than a day or two here because of that Telecomunications ANTENA which is so near at the back yard. Many people cound not sleep easily at night, and others had headaches!

Goula's: Nice castle accommodation at Goula's

by allouc

Goula's is a simple bed and breakfast hostel inside the castle of Monemvasia. The owner was very helpful and since it was early in the season let us have one of the rooms for 60 Euros per night. The two level loft we got was very comfortable and clean. Our five year old was ecstatic at the place as he got the bed withthe view.

The atmospere of staying in a castle is something unique. Our room was furnished in the traditional style and we had use of our own lemon tree shaded courtyard that over looked the sea. Everything was close and our stay there was superb.

Kronos Camping, Ageranos: By The Beach

by nickandchris

This campsite was only just opening up although the best spots by the beach had all been taken when we arrived.
Extensive site with old bamboo awnings for shade. A few blocks of good facilities and the usual laundry sinks. Also fridges for use.
A taverna fronting the beach .
Superb beach which never got busy and a stream running through the site full of eels, terrapins and fish.
If you were back-packing there was a nice campimg area bt the stream.
A walk from the site along the back of the beach takes you to some substantial bridges, they even have footlights in them. They were nowhere near the road so we weren't sure whether there had been a road there at some time. There was certainly no sign of one and the bridges were well maintained. A mystery.

One thing we will always laugh about was the chemical disposal point. It was just a proper toilet positioned outside the toilet block!!!!
The beach here takes some beating.

Rooms, Limini Gerakas: Traditional

by nickandchris

When we arrived in the pretty little hamlet of Limni Gerakas there were no signs advertising rooms so we asked at a taverna and we were taken next door and shown this strange, wonderfully traditional place with two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom and a tiny little balcony overlooking the ffiord type bay. Absolute heaven. We paid the enormous sum of 500dx. a night here and ended staying a few days.
There was a huge chandelier in the kitchen, a huge, noisy old-fashioned fridge and an amazing array of kitchen equipment.

This seemed to be the only accommodation available in the village.

One thing I'll always remember about this place was the wooden ceiling. When it rained the sound was very much amplified. Also the double bed turned out to be a 3/4 bed with a double mattress hanging over both sides!!! Not as luxurious as it looked.
I think the outstanding feature of this property was the lovely view. We spent the early evenings watching the fishing boat activities.

Towers in Mani for accomodation: Mani towers used as guesthouses

by marka13

Greece has a number of villages and buildings, which have retained traditional characteristics. In order to protect this national heritage, the Greek National Tourist Organization has been instrumental in organizing a project to conserve this traditional architecture as one of the basic elements characterizing the country.
The village of Vathia is a typical Maniot settlement built as an acropolis on top of a hill, in a 1500 meters distance from the seashore. Its stonebuilt houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries are grouped in dense clusters with a church, a square, fortified dwellings and a military tower. There are 15 rooms and 48 beds available at the guesthouses.

Three of them are on Mavrovouni 6 klms beach, near Githio. I cannot call them luxarious but they offer the necessary and known facilities. "Meltemi" is considered best of the three.
