Modern Monemvasia
by Lilasel
Most of Monemvasia's residents live in the port, which is a modern town on the Greek mainland about 2 km from the Rock of Monemvasia. This port or Yefira is a modern town with a supermarket, travel agency, bus connections and other services.
From the port, the Rock is about a 20-minute walk or a few minutes by car.
The streets
by AndyRG
They are all narrow, with stone-paved lanes.
Cars or motorcycles (even bicycles!) are forbidden...
Just use your feet! It is a little town and you won't be tired, even if you would like this idea...
Jungle!
by AndyRG
The few ruins of the buildings in the upper town were not visible because of the height of the flowers. They were hiding the footpaths and even your companion!
It was a winter with many rains, not a common phenomenon in Greece...
This one is 4 U, Peace...

"The Gibraltar of Greece"
The resemblance between Monemvassia and Gibraltar is astonishing.
The greek one is a bit smaller, less crowded, less british, and less strategical... and less noisy.
"A quiet little village..."
In this quiet little village, there's no cars, no noises, calm is perfect, even with crowds of tourists all around, because it has many narrow alleys where you can get lost in space and time...
"Rush hour"
This is the main street at rush hour, LOL
Now seriously, this is just 8:50 am, not too early.
If you sleep inside Monemvassia, you can enjoy some moments of magical PEACE, before the tourist invasion...
