9 km away from Agios Nikolaos, we spent a lovely night in a posh club, just on the beach.
As usual, just loved the stories/ legend which goes like:
Elounda's lagoon also has the island of Spinalonga and its Venetian fortress, which for many years was used to be a leper colony. Sad tales like the lepers who would try to escape from the "Isle of Tears", using barrels or wooden bed frames for boats.
It's not recorded if any the desperate escapees encountered the other occupant of the lagoon: Artemis/ Diana, who in Cretan myth is said to be a mermaid goddess, believed to still inhabit the local waters .
