Lefkas, narrow side streets
In the center of Lefkas, a few narrow side streets are escaping from the main street. They are lined with colorful fishermen houses.
There are no really ancient buildings as the city is often hit by earthquakes that destroyed most of the buildings. It was hit in 1948, 1953, 1971 and more lightly in 2003.
Most houses are partly made of wood and corrugated iron, even if it does not show : usually, the basement is built with stones and the upper level is made of painted wood and corrugated iron
Still real Greece, but not for long
This is one of the 7 most beautiful beaches in the world according to travel channel. Sometimes waves can be as 3 m high and it is quite dangerous to swim. You can eat and drink in tavernas -3 of them with view like this. Mythos beer 0.5l costs 3 eur and food is like 4-6 eur. You have to walk down the 150 steps to reach the beach and there are some umbrellas for 3 eur. You can walk also on the shadow side of the beach, but you have to go through water, so your feet will be wet. On the right side there is beautiful spot for snorkeling. Water here is much colderr than on the east side of the island and there are strong underwater currents if you are a diver-snorkeling enthusiast.
Myself enjoying in the front of the Eva Beach hotel. They have a small private Beach with umbrellas for free. Very good for children of my age.
"Main pedestrian street in LEFKADA - capital"
Main street in Lefkada is a must visit spot on the island. It is just a walking area with exclusive small shops of hand made stuff. There are very good traditional fast foods with Gyro pita to take away and chicken suvlaki for 1,5 euro which was one of the best I traid in last 15 years.
