Lefkas, the main street
The main street is pedestrian only.
The northern part of the main street (Goulielmou Dairpfeld), from the lagoon to the main square is very touristy. The southern part (Stratigou Ioniou Mela, after the main square, has better kept its character. There are different shops, several cafeneion that serve skewers and sometimes kokoretsi. Close to the end, the post-office and several fish-mongers.
"The Ionian Side of Greece"
Lefkada, or Lefkas, is a large island in the Ionian Sea. It has beautiful views and appears to be the home of many a sailor. The harbors in both Lefkas and Nidri were full of 50foot + sailboats. The island has several small villages that are picture perfect with beaches that seem like they would be great in the summer.
From Nidri, there are several options to cruise the nearby islands. All of them go by Skorpios and talk about the Onassis family. We chose to go on a smaller ship that did not go to the tourist islands, but rather to Kalamos and Kastos. The MS Christina provided a great lunch, a good tour, and comfortable seats for soaking up the sun. It cost 45 Euros a person and they do not take credit cards. In the high season, reservations are required.
