Even when they have been improved, roads in Lefkas are narrow and spaces where you can park to take a photo are scarce. Then, it is not a big surprise if these two photos were taken from the same place, the first one in 2001, the second in 1976.
The difference between them is striking: in 1976, there were open spaces, west to the city (left on the photo). In 2001, everything had been built!
Lefkada is world known for the windsurfing and kite surfing conditions it offers during the summer months when a thermal wind blows in the afternoon.
The two famous beaches of the island are Vassiliki and Agios.
Lefkas is an islandand the centre of the main Ionian Islands. But it is only 50 metres far from the mainland and is attached by a causeway and mobile bridge, opened every day for 10 min per hour. Or you can reach it with ferry boat from Preveza (30 min) or by airplane. This makes Lefkada a very easy island to get to.
Lefkas has fantastic views around. Of the east coast to the famous Onassis island of Scorpios, to the other islands and mainland of Greece. On the west coast you will find the beaches and will have beautiful sunsets.
In addition you have some historical places there.
Off the beaten track to the mountains you will find villages with renovated old stone houses and high above nice reaturants.
