Skopelos - a wonderful gem in the Aegean
Skopelos, the second largest island in the Sporadic islands in the northern part of the Aegean was the goal for my vacation this year. Though 2nd largest it is still a very small island, only about 40 km long and with loads of beautiful roads to drive around at 40-50 km/h and enjoy the scenery. There are plenty of nice beaches, but few of them with sand. Which is a good thing to me, as I dislike having sand and dirt everywhere after a day at the beach. When I went there in June it was still early in the season. I even had a beach to myself at the Agios Ioannis Sto Kastro one day and I was never at a crowded beach.
The Chora, village of Skopelos where I stayed is truly the most aimable little village. It sits on the slopes of a mountainside down towards the harbour and the streets of the town are so narrow that motorcycles and cars are forbidden, even though some break that rule. Still it's well worth strolling around for a day.
