Parga Beach Hotel on Valtos Beach

Stayed for a week and was very happy about the layout of the hotel and the services. There are several types of accommodation, spread out a bit in one or two stories units. The exterior and interior designs are good and I felt I got more than my money's worth. There was plenty of space. The beach restaurant leaves something to be desired, both service- cost- and menu-wise, but the buffet breakfast is good, depending on your package deal with the hotel. Plenty of eateries nearby provide good alternatives.

Unique Quality: It is a good 20 minutes walk from Parga proper, but the town is easily accessible by boat from Valtos Beach pier every hour (10 minutes from the reception of the hotel). You can also take a taxi, 5 EUR.
A quiet place, in fact the loudest people and activities around were Greek pensioners vacationing at the same hotel - but that was just an added quality.
A weekly Greek evening is organized every Thursday, very nice. Not a foreigners-only type of affair, there were locals as well as Greeks staying at the hotel there as well.
3 minutes' walk to a small nearby supermarket.
The beach is just down from the hotel, no road to be crossed, just straight down to the sandy beach. Clean, clear water.

Back to normal - please enjoy

by Lomma about Parga Beach Hotel restaurant

Parga Beach has again become a better place to be this year. Still cose sofa's and stuff, but the image is back to where it should belong I think.
Good place to just have a couple of beers.
They have a good Restaurant also, which serve good food.
The crew, not so hip this year, but much friendlier plus all the "oldies" that still goes strong there - I am happy to go there again. Try the restaurant - good food.

This year we always got a big bowl of nuts/snacks for each beer. That was great.

Travel Tips for Parga

Epirus Trip Overview

by sandysmith

Epirus is the coastal region north-western Greece and southern Albania. From Parga we made a day trip (organised excursion) of some of the interesting sites locally. Not normally a big fan of organised trips but this was a good one as the areas visited were all fairly local and not a lot of time was spent on the bus but actually exploring or walking in the area so I can really recommend this trip and will make a few tips on each place visited.

Basically the tour went to the Oracle of the Dead archaeological site (almost an hour hour with good explanation from guide), afterwards it was coffee and cake time at a local village (with a huge tree in the village square) not far from the Zalongo Monoment. Over an hour was then spent at the Zalongo Monument - you need the time to climb all the steps up the rock face to reach this otherwise you spend time at the monastery below. Next up was a lazy lunch stop by the River Acheron from whence it was a short hop to actually walk up the Acheron river gorge. In-between all this was lovely countryside and mountains of Epirus - the pics will show some of the views. Watch out for storks nesting on the church chimneys too!

Old Town Taverna

by sandysmith about Taverna Kantouni

Great location just off a small square in the old town centre, tucked in an alleyway. Looked a small homely place for a tasty meal whilst being able to watch the the town activity. Tasty food but surprisingly as the only people there lacked some ambience. For once the service was a bit indifferent too, not bad just not overly friendly - and no free drinks either :-( We both just had fillet of pork stuffed with feta cheese, bacon, mushrooms and onions. Excellent quality and very tender. With wine and water was 23 euros. No pud here but strolled around the town with a gelato from the local ice-cream parlour.

Steep alleys to the castle

by JLBG

Most of Parga is forbidden to alien cars and anyway, there are not many streets where locals can drive. Most of them are steep alleys, arranged as stairs. This is especially the case with the ones that lead to the castle.

Parga

by Vieri4

"What's it like?"

Parga is a charming town on the western coast of mainland Greece and ideal for a relaxing holiday. The beach although fairly narrow is nice and there are plenty of bar/swimming pool venues which seem to have become quite popular in Greece now.

The coastal town has many good restaurants with great views overlooking the bay and town and aside from that has little else to offer. There are quite a few decent bars but the nightlife is fairly limited.

Parga is somewhere that is just ideal for relaxation and nothing else, the town is popular with Greek and Italian holiday makers.
