The old town of Rethymno is smaller than the one in Chania, but it has the same charm with it (if not better...). It spreads out around the old port of the city. The old town is full of narrow streets and many different shops.

Travel Tips for Rethymno
Take a ride to Chania!
If you are staying for a week of two in or around Rethymno, great thing to do is to take a ride to Chania. You can hop on the local bus or rent a car. You can also try to car pool with other guests from the hotel.
Chania is about 40 min drive west of Rethymno on National Highway.
If you arrive during the day you can park your car on the parking lot next to Fortezza. Fortezza in Chania is located in the same spot as the one in Rethymno.
If you arrive after sunset, good like finding a spot. Just try to park anywhere you think your car will be safe from bumps and bruises.
Chania is nice to stroll along through OLD VENETIAN TOWN or TURKISCH part that is on the eastern part of harbour.
Chania is easty to get lost in, but don't be afraid, you will not be lost for long and getting lost is actually really nice. Just keep walking between old buildings and narrow streets an sooner or later you will see familiar harbour and Fortezza with your car safely parked on the lot.
