Beautiful Bali
If you are staying in Rethymno and like to go to different beach every day. Bali is a nice place to go.
When we saw Bali from the National Highway (east of Rethymno) it looked like a paradiese village with it's crescent beaches and buildings cascading down the mountain to the ocean.
We found a nice studio (45 Euro) to stay in right on the main street in the middle of vilage.
Beach was really nice (if you don't mind dusty, dark, volcanic sand, that makes your feet look really dirty). We went to the biggest beach (farther east) there was no need to rent an umbrella since the trees provided enough of shade. There is no restaurant service on the beach but all the bars and tavernas are situated right across the beach, on a quiet street easy and safe to cross. The best part was water, it was shalow enough to play in and deep enough to cover you up to your chest.
As for the restaurants we were afraid of the touristy places in Bali since all the menus have photos of the food instead of discryption, and are in 10 different languages including Dutch. But we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant we went to was on the western end of Bali right over a small fishing harbour (it used to be a fissing village) Our table had a great view, our food was delicious and price was great too.
All together it is a nice place to visit for a few hours.
uh....and there is lots of kids and strollers and dipers and stuff.....
