Samos - leaving by plane
Hello all - Flying into Samos Sept 13 arrive 16:05 - ferry to Kusadasi leaves at 17:00.
Several questions- is it possible to get a taxi at Samos airport and make it to the ferry? Appears to be several sites to purchase ferry tickets but ISTA travel seems to be the major source? What is the cost and how long does it take to process out of Samos? Can not find a web site for ISTA. Can ferry tickets be purchased in advance?
Any advice or recommendations would be welcome.

As far as I know your ferry will leave from Vathy (Samos City).
To catch your ferry:
- your plane doesn't have any delays;
- you will have to pick up your luggage without any problems;
- you will have to catch a taxi (just outside the arrival hall on your left hand side); we had to wait for minutes before we had one;
- make a taxi ride from the airport to Vathy, about 20 km's.
I think if you have a lot of luck it must be possible, but ....

I agree with the above, but you have togo trough customs as well,because you leave an EG country.Why dont you spend the night in town and enjoy and leave next morning??? maria

Just take a moment to admire the flora and fauna (especially the bougainvillea) that seem to be everywhere in the towns and villages of Samos. I think the Greeks take great pride in their gardens, because they are some of the most beautiful I've seen in my travels!
Also an old village in the mountains, named after ‘Manolas’, the surname of first family which settled here. The village lies on an altitude of about 380 metres. The views of the sea and the mainland of Turkey are stunning.
Due to cloudy and rainy (yes, even on Samos) we went by car through the Valley of the Nightingales with impressive trees, vineyards and a little stream. After a couple of serious hairpins we reached the car park, just outside the village.
We walked uphill along the ‘main’ road, which has some potteries, galleries and souvenir shops. It is obvious that Manolates attracts more (foreign) visitors than Vourliotes. It has the same old whitewashed houses often decorated with colourful flowers. Flowers are also painted on the streets.
There are some little squares with restaurants and cafés. We were rather early in the morning and just one of them was open for a cappuccino; made with warmth, but with a bad taste.
We heard and read about the ‘Lucas Taverna’, signposted and located above the village. It should have spectacular views, but we didn’t visit because of the increasing clouds; for sure something for our next visit.
