We stayed there for two nights and have nothing to complaint, but...
The hotel is good, but far from everything. The views over the see are good, but there's no beach at walking distance. We had a car, and that solved everything.
Xubuntu wrote in my page:
There are 2 beaches just in front of the hotel, 80 m distance. This photo is very old the hotel has been totally renotavated in 2012. And its your best choice on Samos island !
Thanks Xubuntu, as a matter of fact this pictures were taken in 1989. From the hotel and the road we saw no beach, that's why we didn't approach the water.
Price! Maybe because of the isolation, the price was good for a deserved four stars.
The most stunning bay on the island of Samos! great accomadation and a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our stay here with our hosts and felt completly relaxed after our 2 week vacation. the food was traditional and freshly cooked day after day. A lovely breakfast enjoyed next to the beach and hours of swimming in the cleanest waters on the island and sunbathing. What more could you wish for. The prices are very good and offer BB and HB options. Great website with all the information about the accomadation and the island itsself.
Good service ( lots of advice about car hire, excursions ect)
The Venus Hotel in Kokkari is run by a Dutch couple. My wife, who is somewhat paranoid about cleanliness, said it was one of the cleanest hotels we've ever stayed in.
In common with most Mediterranean Hotels, the rooms are not particularly sound proof. If you are a light sleeper, as I am, then ear plugs are to be recommended, especially if you end up in the room next to the lift. Having said that, my wife had no trouble sleeping, despite the best efforts of the other guests, to keep her awake with noise and loud voices in the corridor.
Staff are very caring. We booked air conditioning when we arrived but it wasn’t working. By the time we wanted to use it that evening, it was! Whenever we had a problem, someone would arrive to look at it within minutes, unlike a hotel in Italy, which took a week to fix the toilet seat!
Being a small hotel, 38 bedrooms, there aren’t many staff but we still got full service. The lady in reception often doubled as bartender for the pool bar. When all else failed, Marie, one of the owners took over reception or the bar. Bedrooms were made up every day except Sunday and even then some work in the room was done.
I’d have no trouble recommending this hotel to anyone.
Friendly staff, large pool with good views and plenty of loungers, very clean hotel - just a great holiday
We found this hotel through the internet, because it was satisfactory on what we were looking after:
- a hotel on the green north coast of Samos suitable to make some walks.
- a hotel not located in a touristy area and authentic as possible.
It turned out to be a very good choice. Villa Kambos is located between the Aegean Sea and the green hills of Samos and is surrounded by gardens with lots of flowers. On the terraces, in the shade of almond trees, breakfast is served (weather depending). We had ours - a tasteful ‘Dutch’ breakfast - in the cosy coffee bar and often got something extra like a home made cake.
Rooms are spacious, with a rather small bathroom (not a real problem) and all do have a balcony on the cooler north side with a view of the sea. They do have all normal amenities like an airco, fridge and TV.
The closest (stony) beach is Kambos Beach, just 300 metres away. We started one of our walks to Vourliotes from the hotel; otherwise you will have to use a rental car, cheap taxi or bus.
Perhaps the only minus point is the fact that the closest restaurant is in the little village of Agios Konstantinos (25 minutes walking), although the owners are willing to bring you by car. Perhaps the best thing is to rent a car, which is cheap and very convenient (almost necessary) if staying in this part of Samos.
The setting of the hotel in the green countryside of Samos.
The very friendly Dutch/Greek owners: Alda Vink and Jiorgo Giavassis.
The affordable rates; we paid just € 35,- a day during our visit in May.
Studios Ioanna in Limnionas are actually more like houses with a low division wall in (part of) the middle that gives sort of a separation between the beds / bed and the living room and kitchen. The ceiling is very high (I estimate 3,5 meters on a v-shape wooden roof). The living room consists of a large u-shaped couch that could easily accommodate two more people. Opposite the living room is the kitchen with everything you could possible need: electric water cooker, coffee machine, toaster for bread, oven, all sorts of pots and pans and dishes, glasses, a coffee service, cutlery... There is also a large bathroom and a veranda with seaview. The houses are situated around a lovely flower garden which is maintained by Ioanna herself. There are all sorts of flowers and trees (bougainvillas and plumbs for instance).
Ioanna is superfriendly and people return to this place time after time. I was tipped by somebody who has been going there two times a year for the last 5 years, and after staying there and seeing the beautiful suroundings and the great beaches, and meeting some of the friendly locals I can now understand why. I too have lost my heart in this village. One of the best places in Greece I have ever seen, and I have only visited 35 Greek islands...
Situated about a 25 minute walk from the main harbour of Pythagorion, so not suitable for the immobile or plain lazy! Taxis are about 3 Euro coming back but typically, never to be seen when trying to get there, so unfortunately a long rather boring walk along the main road is inevitable before getting the first drink of the evening!
We booked through 'Kosmar' the Greece specialists. We have used them a few times & never had a problem. All 14 in the block are studio apartments which are family run & kept very clean. I wouldn't go so far as to say there is a 'typical Greek warm welcome' from the owners, because there wasn't one when we arrived - in fact there is no 'home from home' feel to this place at all! The owners live on site & one feels 'watched' the whole time, but this does have the advantage that any maintenance issues are dealt with immediately as we discovered!
The rules of the house are strict & woe betide anyone who flouts them - Anna does not miss a trick!! Too many to list them all here, but for instance, if you take a drink of any kind to the pool (bottled water included!) be prepared to receive a curt A4 typed reprimand awaiting you in your room (threatening you (& them) with a huge bill from the tax-man!) Also, don't even think about putting 1 of Anna's glasses with an inch of water in the freezer compartment of the fridge (compulsory ice for a hard earned G&T!!) - again, a curt note will be left! Most of the 'rules' appeared from nowhere & they were not actually stated anywhere!! It did actually get quite amusing when guests compared these 'notes' around the pool the next morning!
The pool bar? Well let's just say, it could be so much better! For a start, it could try opening before midday & possibly have some stock!!
Don't let me put you off though! The beautiful well maintained pool, abundance of shiny new sunloungers & pretty garden area more than compensate for Anna's threat of punishment if you step out of line! Some lovely friendly cats to play with too, but be warned, they will enter the patio doors & hide under the beds if you're not watching!
The Villa Anna is literally side on to the airport runway - again, don't be put off! It was actually fun watching planes take off whilst sunbathing & really not a problem - there were very few each day. Landing took place further away & only the final landing sounds of the reverse thrust engines could be heard.
When I first looked down at Villa Violetta from the top of the main road my first thought was how am I ever going to get back up the steep climb as Roger (my husband) hates heights and driving abroad, but once down there I didn't want to leave. Villa Violetta is a small family run business. Stavroula and her parents were very hospitable and certainly made my holiday unforgettable when on my birthday they all sang "Happy Birthday" to me in Greek and bought me a lovely birthday cake. I would definately recommend this accomodation if you are looking for peace and quiet and don't want to be where the night life is, as the drive into the nearest lively town is Kokkari which is about 15 miles away and would take you 20 -30 mins to drive. There is also Karlovassi about 5 minutes away but not as nice and lively as Kokkari.
Villa Violetta is situated a stones throw away from the beach (Piaki) and the picturesque bay of Ag.Nikolaos and on the foot of a green hill. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday this is just the place to be. The accomodation comprises of studios with twin bed, kitchen and bathroom with shower or for a family they have apartments with adjoining doors and two bathrooms. There is a lovely pool with plenty of sunbeds and umbrella's surrounded by beautiful flowering gardens. Another added bonus is the beautiful sunset that you can see each evening and if you manage to wake up on time you can catch the early morning sunrise
I was surprised to find out that Skorpios had a swimming pool. My balcony had a fantastic view to the Gulf of Vathy. The proprietors were friendly (the lady is a painter!). There is parking.
Cons: No easy access to beach (and no great beach to begin with), no soap in bathroom, inefficiently-placed A/C unit.
The design is aesthetically nice.
It's accessible and at the same time quiet - located at one of my favourite parts of the island. (Kalami)
A very freindly pool bar run by Costas and a young lady I forget her name as well as serving drinks there is a small snack menu reasonably priced and the food we had was fine.
If you do sit around the pool be warned, if you sit on the far side on the lower level you may get wet if people are diving into the pool.
The Anthis apartments were booked through Kosmar Holidays in the Uk we found the owner Costas to be very freindly and helpful.
I would say the accommodation was basic but clean, for those of you who have been to Greece before I would say the usual standard apartment accommodation (no shower curtain etc).
Our apartment (No. 22 I think) was a two bedroom, one with a double bed and one with a bed and settee bed, it also had a small kitchen with a 2 ring hotplateand a small bathroom with a small sit in bath.
This apartment on the top floor had a large balcony to 2 sides although the apartment next door had a much smaller one.
The pool area was ok although there is not a lot of room around the pool itself (watch your head on the lemon trees).
The pool bar was always well stocked with a shaded seating area to one side.
A small beer at the bar was 1.5 euros a coke was 1.3 euros I think and a Metaxa and sprite was 3.5 euros.
Staid 4 two weeks in this smal hotel in Pythagrion on Samos. It was friendly and nice. But far from the beach so if you have a hard time walking DON´T stay in Athos. Athos owners are the best and thay go out of their way 2 make your stay nice.
Great view from some of the rooms. But no pool.
500 metres from Airport but don't let that put you off - there are only 3 flights on only about 4 days a week - no night flights.
Run by Ileas and Maria. There's a mini-market on site with the essentials - if she hasn't got it Maria will get it.
Very clean - regular maid service.
Good pool and pool bar.
Local town with bigger supermarkets and tavernas only 10 minutes walk away
Friendliness and helpfulness of Ileas & Maria.
They also have part share in restaurant in Pythagorio - 10% off for Melissa guests.
Views: one side towards mountains - the other towards airport (see above)
$30 USD a night for a studio apartment that could sleep up to 3.
Villa Albatros is a great place to hang your hat in Samos. The villa has 13 units, all of which are studio apartments. Each apartment comes with a kitchen. Lots of the guests enjoy spending time on the patio/balcony in front of each apartment. The grounds are filled with beautiful greenery. The villa also has a new pool and a full stocked pool bar. The villas are only 100 M from beach. The friendly owner, Manolis, makes sure your stay is very pleasant.
