bus station

by renide

Hi, I'm going to travel by bus and train. Can you tell me how to get from the train station to the bus station?

Re: bus station

by StefanosS

Long distance buses in Greece are known under the name KTEL. All local KTEL companies are organised under an Association with the same name. The main bus Terminal of the KTEL Association is not very far from the Railway Station and many bus lines are going there. Just ask the information desk of the Railway Station. Although, a few local KTELs have their own terminals in other places (e.g. KTEL of Halkidiki is to the east end of the city). So, for a more accurate answer, we have to know your destination.

yes, if you are going to Halkidiki, the bus station is in a different part of the city, as Stefanos said.
bus no 1 connects directly the train station with the central KTEL station, it is very easy to find once you exit the building. it takes about 7-10 minutes tops
there are other buses that you could take as well, but i think this one is the easiest for a non-local :-)

Travel Tips for Thessaloniki

Macedonian Treasures

by Teo72

Although Vergina is not in or near Thessaloniki, you must not miss it if you have time to spare. Vergina is the site of excavated palace remains and tumulus tombs of the Macedonian kings and dignitaries. In fact, one of the tomb is believed to be that of Philip II, father of Alexander the great.
First, while still in Thessaloniki, you can start with a visit to the Archaeological Museum (6 M. Andronikou street) where you can see a superb collection of antiquities including gold from the Macedonian empire.
Then you can head to Vergina archaeological site (with museum on the premises), which is near the village of Imathia, 75 km away from Thessaloniki.
Believe me, the trip is more than worthy.

Packing List

by mauro_pd

Got some small troubles in Thessaloniki airport mainly due to hi number of people arrived within same slot ... Business Travel Bring your own with you !!! do not buy cameras by people offering them to you along the streets !!!! If you plan to stay (or if you have to stay) more than 2-3 days (and you do not have a car) bring with you some books ... otherwise you'll get incredibly bored :-(

The Bar

by DrexelDragon about The Bar (that is its name)

The Bar is a nice, groovy, laid back bar/cafe. It has somber lighting inside, and there is outside seating with heaters when necessary. They played good music, and the place was filled by 10pm. I was impressed when I asked for a gin&tonic and the girl asked me if I had a particular gin I wanted. They have Tanqueray at least, although they serve it with lemon instead of lime just like everywhere else I have been. (Truly irritating.) Like most other places in Greece, the people are dressed to impress for the most part. But, there were other people there like myself, who were wearing jeans, tshirt, and non-sneaker shoes.

Local travel agents...

by Yiannis2000

Most of my travels the last year have been booked via my local travel agent Spyros at MEL Travel, +302310545994.
If you are already around here and need some help you can call him and use my name! He can also give u inexpensive tickets out of Greece. It works!
Here is the physical address!

Good Places to Eat

by nikki-the about Athonos Plaza

This recently renovated area is part of the "slow-food" movement. There are several restaurants/tavernas here that are worth looking into. None of them are particularly expensive. One general guide to choosing one (as always in Greece) is to note which one(s) are packed with Greeks...a good sign as Thessaloniki residents are pretty demanding about their food and have the luxury to pick and choose in a city full of restaurants and tavernas. Try getting a variety of small dishes to sample a bit of everything.
