Alexander the Great
by AndyRG
His sister gave her name to the city, his statue reminds the glorious history of Macedonia. Alexander (356-323 BC) was just 20 years old when his father, Philip, died (in 336 BC, in Aiges-Vergina). Then, his son became the king of Macedonia.
In 334 BC, he managed to win Persae in 3 different fights and so Alexander succeeded to arrive even in India, where he died at the age of 33.
He has been characterized as the best commander in history, one of the most important personalities all over the centuries...
Iktinou Street, A Pleasent Surprise
by dimilag
While the majority of the inhabitants and the tourists in Thessaloniki visit the Paralia (seaside) for a coffee, there is another place in which the art of drinking coffee is accompanied by a beautiful atmosphere under the trees, nice music and friendly staff. Iktinou str is a walkway, so everyone is relaxed and enjoy his/her coffee. If he/she is hungry there are three very good restaurants. The Tiffany, a classical one, serves mainly meat, Peran, serves Asia Minor cuisine and an Italian called Vivere. If you would like a drink there is a cosy bar called Diatiriteo. During summertime they put some tables on the walkway and create a nice atmosphere. Enjoy your walk.
Lonely Planet Guide is Wrong
by DrexelDragon about Ladhadhika
My Lonely Planet guide book for Greece said that Ladadika was the "in" place to go out at night in Thessaloniki. This is not true, or more rather, this is no longer true. Ladadika was the cool place to go out at night about 5 years ago according to my Greek girlfriend, but it has become less frequented by club-goers. I was told that since Ladadika is now frequented by many Albanians that many Greeks no longer go there.
The "cool" places are now in the city center east of Ladadika - from Aristotelus onward towards the White Tower. This is true especially during the winter and cooler weather months. The places to go out at night during the summer is Kalamaria near the water and also the large clubs that exist around the airport area, which just so happens to be the farthest section of the city away from where the Albanian majority live.
Meals of Greece
by cevher
The meals were so acquaintance to me but they were as delicious as we do :)) And people was kind to me when they heard that I'm Turk. I tried kofte (i don't remember how they call it in Greek but probably the same ;)) It was a little bit salty but it was delicious.
I suppose you should see it.

My Greek friends, before we went to thessaloniki, had been waxing lyrical about the White Tower. When we went there, it was shut , although whether this was due to the lateness of the day (1530 hours) or the Easter holidays, I'm not sure. Obviously, not having been inside, I was somewhat disappointed by it on the outside. It was hardly the massive, impsoing structure i had been led to believe it would be.
Additionally, there is a semi-derelict pulbic convenience beside it which, apart from smelling absolutely foul, is obviously a health hazard!
Perhaps I am misjudging the place not having gone to the top of it, but go yourself and make up your own mind.
