Thessaloniki > Athens by bus/coach

by psoniaas

Hello to everybody,
I wonder if someone knows about a bus/coach connection between Thessaloniki and Athens.

Would it be cheaper than the train?

Kind Regards
Alberto

Chek www.ketel.gr for more info.
Buses to Athens go every hour and return ticket (summer 2009) were €55 return..

The trip to Athens lasts aprox. 6 hours. Ticket price is 35 euro per single route and 55 euros return ticket.
You don't have to pre-book for a ticket.
In fact you can't. You can pay at the terminal, before bus departure or on the bus. If you are there 30 minutes before departure you should find a seat.

Visit Veria

by hamouras

Visit Veria After a rating i got from Aspasoulitsa i thought it was i good idea to write about this small town about 70kms from Thessaloniki. It is a nice old city situated at the slope of a mountain. The most amazing thing about this town is its 'beach' as it is usually called. Nop, you can't swim there. Nop, it doesn't even have a sea. Yeap, it has a promenade. It's like walking by the seaside only that instead of the sea there is the valley of Veria. Also if you go towards the hospital of Veria, you will find the forest where you can have a pic-nic. Hey, Aspasoulitsa! Am i right on this or my memory fails me again?

Aghios Panteleimon

by viddra

This interesting building was 1 of the 1st churches built in the ‘Macedonian School’ style. Inside, there are important wall-paintings.

The church of St. Panteleimon’s located north of Egnatia Street, near the Arch of Galerius, on the site of the Byzantine monastery of Perivleptos.

A cluster of taverns in Central Salonica

by IoannaE about Athonos Square

Athonos square is just off the central market and Aristotelous. There's any number of little taverns there, with similar menus and service. Lots of families on Saturday weekends, lots of young people at other times.
My two favourite places, rather more 'grown-up' in character, keep their distances from the main cluster. One is Brotos, across the street from one of the entrances to Athonos square, with a very good menu, a colourful but tasteful decor of posters and the redoubtable Maria at the helm; the other is the trendier Bazaar, situated between shops on another Athonos byway. Anything goes, really - if not sure what to order, just look at the groaning tables around you. You'll be close enough to them not to seem rude!
