Do your shopping on Tsimiski street. There's a huge market. Drinking coffee on Thessaloniki's beach (Paralia Thessalonikis) and in Aristotelous Square with a good friend. There are so many cafeterias there.

I'm thinking of visiting Thessaloniki next year during their Book Fair ( I'm in the book business here in the US, so it becomes tax deductable ). But I cannot find out when it is.
According to some reliable sources, it is May 22-25, 2010. According to other equally reliable sources it is April 22-25, 2010. Obviously someone made an error someplace and the error was copied.
I searched their English version web site, and I cannot find a date. I sent email in English and received no answer. Unfortunately I only know a few words of Greek, so I cannot call them.
Could someone call them ( +30 210 9200327 ) and ask which month it is, and then pass the answer back to me? Thanks.
I turned up reference to this fair being always held in May. Next year China is 'guest of honour' at the fair. Probably easier to ask the Chinese ?
Hi!
For the last two consecutive years, I have been an assiduous visitor of the Thessaloniki International Book Fair. www.thessalonikibookfair.gr
It always happens the last week of May, so this year took place from 28 to 31 May.So, I suppose, even next year, it is going to take place the same period roughly.
Do not be so anxious about dates and time schedules! Thanks God, we live in Greece and we always take our time! Now, it is summer time, the best period to go on holidays, nobody will care about the next year's dates!
Please, revert to their site around January 2010 and I am sure you will spot the dates!
But, it is so nice that we will have some visitors from the States, because last year there was not any American participation.
What kind of books do you publish?
Regards.
You are talking about the International Book Fair. The above information is correct.
Just keep in mind that there is one more Book Fesrival, organized by the Publishers of Northern Greece. On this year, 2009, the 28th event took place on 5-21 June, along the seaside near the statue of Alexander the Great. Usually more than 300 publishers and book-sellers are participating, mainly with Greek books, but foreign editions can also be found. This event is mainly oriented to sells and communication with the public and is really very popular.
The website of the Union of Publishers of Northern Greece is only in Greek Language:

Thanks everybody. It is May. I finally checked with the convention center.
Hi! I just called them -after a lot of no-respond calls- and they told me the date is 22-25 April 2010. They said it's definite and it will come up in their site soon.

this is the absolute sweets heaven and I just found my own piece in it> its a place called something like TERKENAIS orosomething but the address is TSIMISKI 30 and you can miss is walking down Tsimiski and Promenade intersection. You can just follow the sweet vanilla smell all the way to that place because they perfume their air exhaust from the kitchen! this shope is absolute cake heaven!!!
What shall we do?
Diving!!!
But where?
Alonissos Island of course! Its the best place around here.
And how do we go there?
By sea! Its only eight hours.
Why don't we go by plane?
Sorry mate, no plane today.
Alonisos is an island that belongs to the group of Sporades Islands. It has a pure natural beauty like few other islands in Greece. Its beaches are probably of the cleanest in Greece. It is also one of the resorts of the Meditteranean seal, an animal under the threat of extinction.
Much more challenging to get to (from Canada at least), fewer flights, difficult connections. However, it is easy to get to Athens and fly up in 30-45 minutes with Olympic/Aegean/Cronos Airlines if you can't find a direct connection. Personally, I'm with KLM, they are very reliable, and professional, and they will get you there safely.
