great website for city overview
by magdaki
this tip is not about a "favourite thing" nor a "fondest memory". it is only here to give you a link to this website
http://www.thessaloniki360.com
an excellent work that gives 360 degree images of the city, overlaid on a map. i think it's both helpful for travellers and a good way to see images of the city even if you do not plan to travel here.

Panagia Halkeon
by viddra
North of Egnatia Street, near the Ancient Agora, you'll find this church of Panagia Halkeon, dedicated to the patron saint of coppersmiths.
The area where it's located, used to be packed with coppersmith shops (halkadika).
The church was built in 1028 on a site where an ancient temple dedicated to Hephaestus or Caberius once stood.
Inside the church, there are important wall-paintings and the grave of its founder, Christophoros.
In front of the church, there's a beautiful garden.
Kleio Boat Bar

Kleio Boat Bar
Kleio is a boat that some people converted it to a bar. You can find it by the seaside usually near the port or near the White Tower. It has rock music and sometimes it makes a short trip in the gulf of Thessaloniki. No dress code applied.
Fresh Seafood
by Teo72 about If I can only remember :(
When you are walking along D. Gounari street towards the Rotunda of Saint George, just before you reach it, you'll see a small unassuming tavern to your left. It advertises fresh (& mainly grilled) seafood and if you love fish as much as I do, you must not miss it.
Also, if you go in any local tavern, don't miss souvlaki (grilled meat pieces on skewers; lamb is the usual meat for Greece) and uzzo or retzina (alcoholic drinks which you either hate or love). Grilled small octopus and calamari.
