Travel Tips for Andros
The Town Hall
by AndyRG
The Town Hall is in front of Girokomiou square, near the parking area, where you can also see the hospital of the island. Andros has 2.000 inhabitants, its atmosphere is elitistic and that happens because of its cultural character and the prestige of the rich localite ship-owners.
The Archaeological Museum
by AndyRG
Hermes of Andros is a hellenistic copy (2th c. BC) of the original statue -4th century BC- made by the sculptor Praxiteles.
The museum contains finds from excavations on the island, mainly from Zagora and Palaiopoli. It was erected in Hora at the expense of the "Vasilis and Elisa Goulandris Foundation" and has been open to the public since 1981.
A small island...
by AndyRG
The square of Afanis Naftis is connected by a stone bridge (13th century) with this small island. There, you can walk through the ruins of an old venetian castle, which was built by Marinos Dandolos.
The castle was in a good condition until 1943, but that year it was bombed. Be careful when climbing on that bridge!
Andros, the Chora
by JLBG
Half of the population of the island lives in Andros, which is the Chora (capital) of the island. It has a population of around 4,000. It is a nice little city with the large houses of the several ship owners that have made the wealth of the island in the last century.
We stayed little in town and preferred to visit the wildest parts of the island than the chora!
Walk around...

"A capital like a village"
Hora (Andros) is the capital of Andros Island, but not the most touristic place - which is Batsi. It is located next to the sea, between two valleys, the view is difficult to be forgotten.
What you must not miss is the Museum of Modern Art, one of the best places about arts, in general, during the summer in Greece...
