WONDERFUL VIEWS OF THE CALDERA

Friday, Saturday & Sunday - June 1, 2 & 3, 2007
One of the more venerable hotels in Fira, HOTEL KAVALARI, was originally a captain's house and retains its traditional island architecural style. Situated on the rim of the Caldera, 300 metres above the sea, the property has exterior stairways which wind down the cliff face to various flowered terraces overlooking the volcano. Rooms are built directly into the cliff with access to various terraces where guests can relax, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and spectacular sunsets. Each room faces the caldera and has its own character, some resembling small caves. Our room was decorated with traditional furnishings and included private bathroom, satellite TV, mini-fridge and one huge double bed.
The hotel is conveniently located near the bus and taxi station and near the Greek cathedral Mitropoli. Actually, it was great too because, the VT meeting area was right in front of our hotel.
It is also close to banks, the post office, museums and a variety of excellent restaurants.
Prices ( VT price 102 Euros ) include daily maid service and a continental breakfast every morning. The breakfast area was absolutely wonderful, with breathtaking views of the caldera. Breakfast usually consisted of coffee/tea, orange juice, rolls/croissants with jams, honey & cheese.
Check-in time is 14:00, but because our room was ready we were able to check in before noon.
Check-out time is 12:00 - if needed you can store your luggage in the lobby area until you are ready to leave.
Hans and I loved it here and would strongly recommend it. The Kavalari was soooo romantic and a great place to stay if celebrating an anniversary ( we were celebrating our 35th year of marriage)

More about Hotel Kavalari

We stayed in Fira and it was out of this world

by Waalewiener

"Incredibly beautiful it was"

This couple from the USA stayed at the Kavalari Hotel ,and so did we .
They have been coming to Fira for 12 times and he said to me ,I get up and I look and I feel fantastic .
Then my wife comes and joins me for breakfast and we sit here for hours she reads and i just sit here and watch the Ships and everything else.
I now know why this couple likes Fira and Santorini .
It was fantastic and out of this world .

"That's my LoriPori"

I love this picture of Lori standing there looking very Happy and content .
Yes it was a challenge for us going up and down all these steps .
But it was all worth it and it did not matter when you see the view off the
"Caldera ''.
Thank you Galatea for suggesting these beautiful Hotels overlooking the
Caldera .
It was very much worth it and we loved it .

"Vt'rs arriving and meeting each other in Fira"

1 pm in front of the Church was our first meeting point .
I will show as many pic's of VT's as I can in these travellogues .
This sure was fun to see everyone meeting each other .
