Caldera Path
The caldera rim path starts from in front of the Orthodox cathedral and continues along the cliff side as far as the end of Imerovigli (and right to Oia 12km away if you're feeling up to it). You can't get lost from this path; after all it hugs the cliff, so I don't need to give directions. What is along the path varies from point to point, sometimes shops, sometimes tavernas, sometimes accommodation, sometimes nothing at all, but always fantastic views. Along its length you will catch glimpses down to the old port at the bottom of the cliffs, the cable cars that run up and down to it and the donkey steps, sometimes filled with the whole herd(?) of donkeys traipsing up with their cruise ship passengers.
In places there are a few steps to climb, but never more than a few at once, and on the whole it's flat and easy going. At various points in Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli there are steps leading down to lower levels, which are mainly access for hotels etc. but still provide picturesque detours and are worth a bit of exploration.
