Hi,
I am looking for accommodation (hostel style) on Ios in a couple of weeks and being a complete idiot I forgot to book any accommodation. I am looking for about a week starting from 14th or 15th August. I am an Aussie guy 25 y.o. from Perth who is very easy to get along with. Any suggestions or people who have a spare bed would be much appreciated.
If Ios is out of the question can anyone suggest another greek island that will provide a similar experience as Ios?

If you don't come up with anything just go there and you'll be approached by locals on the ferry dock with rooms to rent that aren't advertised on the internet. There is no other island like Ios in Greece (thank God!). For a similar vibe you'd have to go to Ibiza or Mallorca in Spain or Koh Phangan in Thailand.

If you want to avoid the summer partying on the Greek Islands go in January. The weather is cool but sunny. Although Ios is beautiful there is not much to do on Ios.
A four day stay is pushing it . Apparently Homer is buried on the island . There is no signage . I walked the entire island and found nothing . Anyway . Santorini is more interesting .
Greek people will really appreciate if you try to speak a few words in Greek while talking to them, you will see their faces smiling, for this reason below you will find few of the main words you "have" to know when traveling in Greece:

I found Greek people very friendly.
If you go eat in a Taverna (a local restaurant), and someone invites you to see the kitchen ad shows you the food before cooking it, don't say no, go and have a look around in the kitchen.
They are proud to show you the kitchen, i think is a way to show you how they work and ther working environment.
Ios scared the sh*# out of me....too many drunken yobbo boorish louts running about stoned and pissed out of their brain. I really felt unsafe and left early after only a couple of days....what a pity

IOS is known as a party island, and that's about all you can do on the lil island, drinking, partying and having a good time! And if you get up before sundown, you can get tanned on the beach.
We, my classmates and me, went to IOS, Mylopotas Beach after having passing our high school diploma in June 1997! That's a looong time ago;)

It's a nice beach with lots of cafeterias around and hotels.
As I´ve told you there's not much to do except for partying, the only reason why people come to the tiny island.
All the bars and shops are in the town which is situated on top of the hill, like a 25 min. walk from Mylopotas Beach. I actually thought IOS is a better party island than Mallorca;)
