Unless you've got more money than sense, look no further than Hotel Tagoo for your Mykonos accomodation. On the outskirts of town, Tagoo is everything and more you could possibly expect. The website states with no exaggeration that the rooms are spotless. A fridge (probably cleaner than your own), satellite TV, and A/C all give the rooms added kudos over any other 2 star Greek hotel we've stayed in. All have small balconies or terraces with awesome views of the bay and famous sunset. DONT BOOK THROUGH AGENTS, ONLY BOOK DIRECT THROUGH THE HOTEL. Contact Tagoo via their website - all my emails were answered within 24 hours. We paid 420 euros, or Ł283, for 7 nights, although sensibly breakfast is NOT included in the rate, giving you the flexibility to eat here or in town. We raved to some rich Americans how great Tagoo was for the price, and their mouths opened wider than a Mykonos pelicans beak. They had paid nearly the same for one night as we had for the whole week.
What really sets Tagoo aside is the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. Manager Anna's main concern is that your holiday goes smoother than the white corners of a Greek house. This is done with the same energy as the wind than blows across the island and is all in a refreshingly unusual manner and style that I guarantee you’ll never have experienced before. The pool area managed by Jimmy could easily be that of a more luxurious hotel, with a daily soundtrack of cool Café del Mar style beats forming an appropriate backdrop. This place is more Balearic than most bars in Ibiza and could easily give some of the venues on the famous Ibizian “sunset strip” a run for their money. The only true drawback to Tagoo is perhaps its location on the outskirts of Mykonos town, and at the top of a steep road. The walk in will take between 10-15 minutes, and ranges from the pleasant (morning of day 1), to borderline arduous (evening of day 7). However, the very hill that you have to climb is also the one that offers such fabulous views of the bay, so it’s a price worth paying, especially when you’re sat at the bar with a cold drink watching one of the best sunsets in the world. On our last night, Anna kindly held a party for her guests, treating us to one of her speciality dishes, drinks, and Greek dancing, and proving once again that Tagoo’s customer service is second to none. With Anna at the helm I see no chance of Tagoo losing its crown. (As of September 2006, Hotel Tagoo is ranked number one in Tripadvisor for Mykonos).
