Petros the Pelican
by chrissyalex
The original Petros was found injured after a storm in the 1950's by a local fisherman and was nursed back to health. He became the mascot of Hora and was very friendly and beloved until he died in 1986. His body was stuffed and for awhile, he was on display at one of the museums. Not long after his death, two pelicans were donated to Mykonos, one by Jackie Kennedy and also a pink pelican by a zoo in Germany ( who was named Petros II) Over the years, 2 more pelicans arrived in Mykonos. One was found injured, just like the original Petros and was brought back to health and just recently , another pink pelican was as a given gift from Germany. If you walk around Hora, chances are quite high you will run into at least one of these four pelicans
if Hercules did it, why cant we?

an easy way to travel between the islands is to use a ferry ride. if you dont mind the time being on a boat and enjoying some scenery, a ferry ride can be fun. one the things to remember is that some Greeks dont have a sense of direction. we were told to go one way, and then noticed our boat is on the other side. we had to sprint all the way around the dock with loaded backpacks to catch our boat. ugh, that was annoying!
Visit Delos
by sieffron
You should try to motivate yourself and head over to Delos for half a day. It's about half an hour by boat from Mykonos and it only takes three or four hours of exploring to feel satisfied.
According to Mythology, Delos is where Leto gave birth to Artemis and Appollo, after Zeus had impregnated her and cast her off, fearing reprisal from his wife Hera. Leto happened upon the island, which was floating and shrouded in mist, after being denied sanctuary elsewhere. In order to stop the island from floating, Leto swore by the river Styx (I've gotta try that sometime) that no harm would come about as a result of her rearing children there. The island, normally quite stubborn, obliged to stop floating and Leto bore Artemis and Appollo, but not before having her childbirth prolonged nine days after Hera tricked the goddess of birth, Eilythia. After the birth of the twins, the mist disappeared and the island basked in the sun. The name of the sacred place thus changed from Adelos (invisible) to Delos (visible) and the sanctity and prominence of the island quickly developed thereafter. The End.
A quieter, more traditional town
by chrissyalex
Besides Hora, there really is only one other town on the island, Ano Mera. Ano Mera is quiter and less touristy. While you are here , visit the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, a traditional Greek Orthodox church which has a beautiful iconostas . Please dress appropriately. Admission is free, but it is nice to pay a euro or so and light a candle.
Mykonos
by TRAVELCHICK29
I took a 7day Mediterranean cruise about 2 weeks ago and one of our stops was in Mykonos. Sad to say, I only got to spend 6 hours in this beautiful island but am thankful to witness one of the most gorgeous sunset I've ever seen
Within walking distance from the port is an area called "Little Venice". Here is a collection of bars and restaurants where people can sit and watch the sunset while sipping their margaritas.
One of the most famous attractions of this island are these windmills which according to one local was built several hundred years ago to make flour. This is also within walking distance from the port, just follow along the trails of souveneir shops and tourists. From here you can enjoy the views towards Little Venice
