Mykonos

by steventilly about Blu Blu

Our first meal on Greek soil during our Cycladean tour was while we were waiting for the boat to Paros. Blu Blu is a cafe/club that overlooks the harbour and has upstairs open-air seating - a great place to watch out for your boat coming in (provided it's not diverted to the new Port!), almost everyone in there had luggage with them!
They also have an Internet cafe and Wi-Fi access, though I didn't bother to ask for (or buy?) time, this was one holiday where I just didn't feel the need to stay in touch with the world.
By night it appears to get more "clubby" and you can even buy CDs of the music they play there in the shops in town, and they have a MySpace page here. I should have made note of its name, but it was early in the holiday and I hadn't got into that mode yet. It was basically Feta cheese, onions, peppers and olives baked in a dish with a pie-crust made from bread! Sounds a strange sort of pie-crust but it was lovely, in fact the whole dish was lovely, a great start to the holiday.

best way to get from Istanbul to Mykonos

by aprefer

We are going from Istanbul on 27 September and were doing Mykonos THEN Santorini then on to Athens & home.

What is the best way to get from Isnatbul or the most fun way

Are there private boats which can be chartered and how much about would it be and how long from Istanbul?

thank you

Atlas Jet sometimes offers charter flights from Istanbul to Mykonos, although I don't know if there is one when you need it. You can contact them by email to ask.

I doubt that you'll be able to find a charter boat from Istanbul to Mykonos. If you do it will probably cost you a small fortune. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 1000 euro. The question is would you want to take a small boat all that way in the open sea? I also doubt that there is a ferry from Istanbul to Mykonos. There are, however, cruise ships that depart from Mykonos for the Greek islands but they stop at other islands as well and take a few days in the process.

You may want to consider going south from Istanbul to Kusadasi where you can catch a ferry acroos to Samos, and from Samos you can then make your way to Mykonos by ferry. The schedules show a 6:30 AM departure from Vathi, Samos for Mykonos on the 27th. From Istanbul you can take a bus to Kusadasi or fly to Izmir and take the bus the rest of the way to Kusadasi.

Once you reach Mykonos you can catch the Hellenic Seaways FlyingCat 4 the rest of the way to Santorini, and from Santorini you can fly or take another ferry the rest of the way to Athens/Piraeus.

Good luck, I hope you can make it all work for you. Enjoy Greece!

Delos - must-see from Mykonos

by SurfaceTravel

A must-see day trip from Mykonos is to take the boat to Delos, birthplace of Apollo and the largest city in the world at one point. Its history goes back to 3000 BC, and the remains are in excellent condition. The entire island is a UNESCO site. I don't think it took more than 20 minutes to get there.

Church of Paraportiani

by al_mary

This church is one of the most
famous architectural structures
in Greece - Church of Paraportiani.
Positioned near the main harbor
entrance, this church is the central
feature of the 'Kastro" or castle area,
the oldest section of town.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It's name means inner or secondary door which it was to the
Medieval stone walls which encircled the area.

First begun in 1475, Paraportiani in reality is a group of five
smaller churches which were constructed over a period of time
and not completed until well into the 17th century.

The two story structure was molded together utilizing four of it's
churches to form a base for the fifth church which when placed
on top formed a central domed roof.

MYKONOS, SUPERPARADISE!

by AlexDJ

"Land of wind..."

When I arrived in Mykonos, the first thing that impressed me was the strong and continuous wind! In every moment, in every time, I was wipped by the gusts and when I asked to a native if they had always that wind, he answered: "what wind are you talking about?"...

"...Beaches..."

But Mykonos offers as well al lot of beautiful spots, such as its golden, sandy beaches and trasparent waters.
You can find a beach for every need, from nudists, families and young people looking for party.

"...and never ending nightlife!!!"

Nightlife in Mykonos is so active and powerful that it's impossible not to be involved and overwhelmed. During the morning and the first afternoon it seems so quiet, but when the sunset get closer and you're still on the beach, the volume starts to get louder and louder...and you don't stop 'till you get enough!
