where in Mykonos Chora

by marktynernyc

I've got my Athens and Santorini hotels arranged - just trying to decide where in Mykonos - going in September.

Looks to have a great view of the town though a bit outside and above town.

Good location but seems a tad pedantic

Nice homey touches - very affordable - but a bit out side of town (they say 10 minute walk or 3e taxi) - the room I'm interested has view of town and port.

If anyone has stayed at any of these places - your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I've stayed at the Vencia Hotel. Rooms are basic but clean. Ask for a room with balcony and Chora/pool views. Lovely views particularly at sunset. The pool and breakfast terrace have a picturesque outlook. About a 10 minute walk to get to Little Venice for eg. Another plus is that if you rent a car there's plenty of parking at the hotel and it's easy to drive to the beaches. The Vencia is highly recommended and I would probably stay there again if I'm fortunate enough to return to Mykonos.

Whoa I just checked their website. Boy has this place changed. I guess their rooms aren't basic anymore! It now costs twice what I paid in 2002. Still I love the new look so I would probably stay there next time nevertheless.

I know the people that own Rania's apartment and i have to say they are marvelous. As you get out of the hotel there are about 20 long stairs that bring you right in the town so dont worry about it,there is no need for taxi. If you find a room with view prefer with port view has better sunset. Rooms are very comfortable and very cosy since the brothers that own the hotel are in their late 30s and mainly rebuilt everything by themselves.
As for the vensia it also look very nice although i havent been there. The good think is they have nice pool. But looks a little more away from town.

I decided to stay at Rania Apartments - I'm splurging in Santorini - staying at a budget hotel in Athens - Rania Apartments seemed like a good change of style/pace. Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

Travel Tips for Mykonos

Wandering Mykonos Town

by sieffron

Mykonos Town, or Hora, is a charming maze of narrow alleyways and white-washed buildings containing art galleries, crafts shops, restaurants, jewelery stores, and bars among other things. Wandering the streets is one of the highlights, and in my case the only highlight, of Mykonos.

CYCLADIC FERRIES

by mtncorg

Most people go to Mykonos by air on a package deal. Flights from northern Europe land just south of the Chora. The Package Flights are Mykonos' lifeblood. Its lifeline is the Cycladic ferries, though. Direct connections are available from Pireaus.

Go to Delos!

by sweetbean

Delos is this little island near Mykonos. The island is completely covered in ruins and is only open for day trips. There are no overnight places to stay and no restaurants on the island, so make sure you don't miss the last ferry! Be sure to pay for a guided tour to learn all the fascinating facts about the island. Then be sure to climb up to the highest point of the island - the views are worth it! Make sure to bring your own drinks and snacks because there's no place to buy any on the island, and you'll definitely want to have something to drink during your hike up to the peak (which is really just climbing a lot of steps).

Search for Peter the Great

by DrexelDragon

Mykonos has two community pet Pelicans, male and female. They waddle down the street right next to you as if you're not there. It's cool, because it's as if they're a cartoon character. They're used to people, but don't try to caress and fondle them. I saw one snap at a woman.

They seem to hang out around Niko's Tavern a lot.

Mykonos - something for everyone

by sweetbean

Mykonos was the second stop on our honeymoon, and it was a very welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Athens. When we got to our hotel (the St. John) and were greeted with friendly faces and helpful staff, and then we saw the amazing views of the Agean sea, we were hooked. The room was great and the views were nothing short of spectacular. The hotel wasn't near town, but there was a bus that we could take or taxi service which was a little more expensive, but more flexible.
