An ok hotel with a nice view

I guess if you are reading this, you are trying to decide where to stay on Mykonos, right? Well, first, I think alot of people stay in Mykonos Town and then go out to the beaches during the day. We did it the other way around--we stayed at the beach and went to Mykonos Town in the evenings.

The most important thing to know about this hotel is that it is at Elia beach, which doesn't look far on the map, but, it is a bit further than you might think. There is a free shuttle to and from Mykonos Town, but the shuttle times are VERY limited and if you rely on the shuttle, you may very well feel trapped--we did feel that way--so we rented a car and this is definitely the way to go. During the day, we used the car to go to a different beach each day and then usually went to Mykonos Town in the evening.

The hotel advertises as a "Leading Hotel of the World", but I would say it is far from that. The hotel is "ok". Sea view rooms usually have some sort of thing blocking part of the view, breakfast is far from exciting, waiters for breakfast are mostly not too friendly...

I don't want to be too negative about the hotel, but I wouldn't personally stay here again, I would stay probably nearer to Mykonos Town or maybe in Ornos.

Elia Beach is more peaceful than some...

by wadekorzan

I certainly would go to Elia Beach during your stay, for a change of scenery. It is quiter than the other "popular" beaches along the south coast like Paradise, Super Paradise, and Platos Yialos. Here there is plenty of room to swim, walk, and also shouldn't be a problem finding an umbrella and sun beds as it can be at some of the other beaches. The bay is bigger but still protected and it has a really cool laid back atmosphere. If you're standing with the sea in front of you, the part of the beach furthest to the left is private and belongs to the Royal Myconian Hotel, but the rest is open to the public. At the far right, at the very ends by the rocks, there are some nudists and gays, so if that's you, head towards the right! Otherwise, the middle is just fine, too! There are watersports here like at most beaches, and I think this is the best one for jet-skiing if you're into that. There are a couple of beach tavernas where you can eat--one has elevated seating (upstairs)--I don;t really recommend that one--not bad, but not as good as the one closer to the beach, next to the pool.
