Flight transportation

by MTSism

Once we arrive in Athens, will we be able to book transportation flights to other Islands, such as Mykanos and Crete, on our own schedule? Or would it be more advisable to book transportation flights before arriving in Greece with a Travel Agent?

try a Travel Agent or www.ageanair.gr

Hi

Flights to the islands in high season are in high demand. I would be inclined to pre book. Check Olympic Air too.

Chances are that most flights on Olympic and Aegean are already fully booked for this summer, but you can check their websites, book directly with them online, and receive e-tickets by email. If you are planning to be in Greece in July or August, don't expect to find tickets at the last minute in Athens, there won't be any.

Between now and the end of October there's at least one highspeed catamaran running daily between Mykonos and Crete, so if you want to save money and time this might be a good option for you as long as it's not fully booked on your travel dates. Check their website: http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp?a_id=209

From Athens you can also take ferries to Mykonos from the ports of Piraeus and Rafina. Check http://www.openseas.gr/OPENSEAS/index_en.vm to see what's running from these ports on your travel dates.

Travel Tips for Mykonos

Mykonos Town

by michellebaker

Mykonos was incredibly lovely, we stopped off a cruise ship and the only tours they mention is to Delos! (it seems a bit strange to dock at one island and take a boat to another).

We got off the ship and wandered around Mykonos town. We had a lovely day, and Mykonos was a lovely place to shop. It was lots of little alleys leading off the harbour and meandering up the hill with little shops spilling out onto the streets. There were little cafes with only two or three tables each, sitting on the sides of the alleys in the sunshine, with lots of flowers climbing up the whitewashed buildings. The jewellery shops were great, and interesting though a massive emphasis on the 'Greek Key' design (which meant there was not a lot of unusual stuff).

We stopped at a little bar and as we went in, we went downstairs and sat on the balcony directly over the sea. The bar belonged to the first female Greek ships captain and we were lucky enough to meet here while we were there.

Mykonos is exactly what you envision a Greek island to be, and we had a lovely day. The people were incredibly friendly.

Situated at Matogianni it is considered to be the ultimate meeting point at Mykonos night life. The Djs play the best freestyle music warming us up. Also it is an observation point in order to see or to be seen by the famous or the wanna be famous visitors of Mykonos.

Eye opening

by amythomas

Eye opening is probably my first impression of Paradise Beach. I don't know if it is quite 'paradise', but it certainly is a party! I entered the beach from the Paradise Beach Resort and Camping (the eastern end i think. I went up through some stairs and into a club (with disco ball and all!) and a small swimming pool - which a woman, topless was getting out of. A few people were on the day-beds to the side. I walked a bit further and saw the actual beach - umbrella covered and chairs (all for hire at 5 euro). Then i noticed just about man and woman there was either nude or topless! I went to the sand and laid out my towel and got 'dressed' for the part..which in this case was almost wearing nothing at all! I'm not comfortable going nude, but i stripped to a thong and spent the rest of the day like that. Ironically, although everyone was carefree and themselves nude, i felt there was more voyeurism there than a 'normal' beach in Europe. That said, it wasn't uncomfortably so - it's I guess, the same feeling you'd get at a night club.

Mills from the top of the hill

by zindara

I would not go up the hill just for taking a picture, but my Hostel was up the hill so I took this picture of the mills while going down to the village.
Did I told you that I liked the mills a lot?

Mykonos

Mykonos is one of Greece's most famous stops. It has beautiful architecture, charming little streets and colors you won't forget in your life. It is a great place to spend a day in a romantic environment.
