Great Apartments, Poor Location

by steventilly about Paolas Studios, Mykonos

On the face of it these apartments were great. Attractively built, nicely furnished, spotlessly clean, run by friendly people and only 10 to 15 minutes walk from Mykonos Town. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, but with one gripe. The walk back from town.
This is up quite a steep hill, not a problem in itself to us as we're fit and active, but it could be a major problem to older people or those with difficulties. What makes it worse though is that it's up a major road that for the most part has no pavement, and Greek drivers, or for that matter any 16 year old on a scooter for the first time in their life, are not renowned for their driving skills. I can't imagine it would be much fun walking children or pushing pushchairs up this hill given the traffic situation. You could get a taxi (if you can find one - see elsewhere) or a bus. We often got off the bus close to the apartments on our way back from days out, and that certainly made it better. Coming just from town though, Euro 1.40 for a 2 minute bus ride might not seem like good value, it's up to you. There's nothing really "unique" about the place. It ticks most of the boxes for what you would want from reasonably priced self-catering accommodation. The pool is just a "cooling off pool" rather than something you could really swim in, but that's true of a lot of places these days, and its proximity to the main road means the pool is not really a quiet place to relax. Plenty of people still enjoyed a few hours a day around the pool though, including ourselves once or twice.
If I went back to Mykonos (and I plan to) I'd probably stay here again. "Better the devil you know" and there were no problems at all with the place - except that walk back from town!

We are arriving by ship. How do we get to little Venice ?

Re: little venice

Little Venice is not so far to ride if your from a ship. It can be reached by Warwick Avenue Underground Station or by car from Marble Arch.

Hi, not sure if you are refering to Mykonos in Greece? If you are, from the port, you need to take a taxi to Little Venice especially if you have luggage. Once you're in the town center, it's easy to walk around. If you're looking to explore the rest of the island, take the bus or rent a motorbike/moped.

I'm assuming a cruise ship, in which case you may be shipped to the old port or Tourlos port, this latter you will need a taxi to Mykonos town. Just ask anyone in Mykonos they will point you to the so-called 'little Venice'.

There are plenty of maps on the internet.

Just came back from Mykonos, Greece. Your ship will either anchor off shore and use tender to town or dock at the terminal and shuttle you into town. Either way, you are within walking distance to little venice, just walk along the water front, it's next to the windmills.

Travel Tips for Mykonos

All the others

by DrexelDragon about Various

We checked out many places. Some were open -- some were not. Some just weren't our style. I'd advise to check them out for yourself.

The Blu Blu Lounge was closed except for one day during the afternoon.

Bolero was playing Latin music, but it was late and closing.

Argo is down at Taxi Square and wanted a silly 5euro cover...didn't look worthwhile at all.

Celebrities...I think this bar is only important to the Greeks so they can saw this or that Greek celebrity. It wasn't our style.

Capaloosa. We went here for a drink thinking it was a bar, but it was more restaurant than bar even at 11:45pm. Drinks were expensive.

Rhapsody cafe along with the other small cafes in Little Venice. I wish these places had more people, because they look like they could be fun. No people = no fun. Perhaps check it out during summer.

Cavo Pardiso...It's a bus or taxi ride out to Paradise Beach, and it's a 20euro cover...less if you go early. We were going to go until we met someone who said they went the night before, paid to go in, and then found out they were about the only ones there. I would not go here until its summer time and I'm going with a Greek. Probably dress to impress, but it is beach oriented. Check out the website or Google it. Looks cool when it's happening.

Top 10 things to do on Mykonos

by sierralyndon

1) Wander around the winding, narrow streets of Mykonos town and get yourself lost for the first hour or so

2) Have a drink at Little Venice - warning: choose seating wisely - some places are smelly from the sea beneath the houses

3) Look out for the pelicans - mascots of the city

4) Eat lots of seafood

5) Watch out for locals obsessively painting white lines on the pavements in front of their properties

6) Visit the windmills

7) Visit the ancient Panagia Paraportiani church

8) Visit the lovely beaches

9) Go to Delos? We unfortunately didn't manage to make a trip there

10) Look out for the Starbucks on the way from or to the airport. What is it doing there in the middle of nowehere?

many sandy beaches

by mindcrime

There are more than 30 beaches, most of them sandy. The most famous are in the south, you can easily reach them by bus. Paradise, Super Paradise, Platis Yialos are some of them. If you like to see and to be seen this is your place. Thousands of other people will do the same so don’t worry about swimming etc :) From the other side these beaches have nice beach bars that play dance music all day and night so it’s your party time. I have to be honest, I never come to Mykonos for the beaches.
