Mykonos to Heraklion Ferry

by travelfamily

We are going to be in Mykonos on June 23rd (Saturday) and are looking for some overnight ferry to Heraklion. Is there such a ferry availble? All I see on-line are fast ferries that take 4 hours forcing us to spend the night in Heraklion. Also these fast ferries are quite a bit expensive.

Any help is much appreciated!!

Re: Mykonos to Heraklion Ferry

The schedule to the greek islands is a bit complicated. You might find a route that is arriving late at night in Heraclion but you will still need to stay overnight. Check the "minoan lines" web page as I know they do this route. The only way to spend overnight on board is to get a boat from Pireaus to Heraclion. This means that you will have to go back to Pireaus and get another boat to Crete (Heraclion). This will cost a lot so I would advice to stay overnight in Heraclion (You might as well visit Cnossos Palace while in Heraclion).
By the way, if you can afford it, try to find tickets with a fast ferry as the trip is long and tiring. (All these stops are driving you crazy). Any way, Myconos is a beautiful island and you will love it.
Have fun!

There is a ferry starting on the 24th June @ 16.50 getting in to Heraklion @ 04.10 but it is not approved yet. Stops @ Paros,Naxos,Ios,Santorini.
All the others go daily @ 14.45 arriving 19.25.
If you go to the website above click on domestic and you can see when it is approved. The agent is on Mykonos straight down from the bus stop (Don't take the bend) he's very helpful

Travel Tips for Mykonos

THE SUNSETS
For the best...

by SirRichard

THE SUNSETS
For the best sunsets in Mykonos go to the windmills, southwards as you go out of Hora, and sit on one of the many terraces there. You'll have a wonderful view of the town from above... but you won't be alone there, at leat if you go in summer!!

buses to beaches

by charlotte-jane

there are 2 bus stations in town servicing plenty of places, leaving hourly or half hourly and all costing 90 cents. some beaches are by boat form others- the boats costed about 4 euros return depending on destinations.

the venetian windmills

by mindcrime

The venetian windmills are some kind of landmark of Mykonos and you can see them in many postcards. You will have your photos here for sure and it's amazing during the sunset.

One of them is a house now and you can see them on the hill up on the right side of Little Venice area so it's great to have a photo of Little Venice too...

There are many other wind mills across the island but these here are not in function anymore.

Church of Panagia Paraportiani....

by Maryimelda

On the western side of the port town of Hora, before you get to Little Venice you will find the imposing Paraportiani. It stands in the area known as "Kastro" or castle area and it is the oldest section of the town.
Paraportiani evolved over about two hundred years beginning in 1475. Four little churches were joined together to form the lower or main area of the church and a fifth church was placed on top to form the dome that we see today.
In medieval times, the Kastro area was surrounded by a stone wall and Paraportiani which loosely translated, means inner door, was just that in terms of entry to the area past the wall.
Today it presents a formidable sight from its perch on the higher ground of the town and like the windmills, it can be seen from miles around.
