    The Agios Prokopios hotel, in the beach resort of Agios Prokopios (about 6km from Naxos Town) is an excellent, laid-back hotel and is an absolute bargain at the price!

    I stayed at this hotel during a month long island-hopping trip in September 2005. I booked the hotel in advance (via www.hostelbookers.com) at a price of just 18 Euros per night. Given the price I had paid, I didn't expect too much. I assumed the glossy photos on the hotel's website (www.prokopis.com) were digitally-enhanced to give a more favourable impression of the hotel. But they weren't!! The hotel is every bit as good as its website suggests.

    I stayed in the middle season and the room rate displayed on the inside of my room was 90 Euros per night. Even if I had paid that price, I'd still have thought that the hotel was good value. So, having paid just 20% of this price, I was very impressed!

    The hotel is actually a complex of low-rise, white-washed apartments built around a swimming pool and a number of gardens. All rooms have either a blue wooden balcony or, if on the ground floor, a terrace.

    The reception is staffed by friendly, helpful staff and contains a wealth of information and guidebooks for the island of Naxos and neighbouring islands, including hotel and restaurant recommendations. The reception also includes a large bookshelf full of books left by previous guests and a computer terminal from which you can access the internet (at a small cost).

    A buffet breakfast is served in the mornings and you can enjoy your breakfast at one of the many tables around the swimming pool or in the shade. The breakfast is not included in the price (it costs an additional 4 Euros per day), but it seemed to be good value for money from what I saw, with guests able to eat and drink as much as they like.

    Rooms are spotlessly clean, well-furnished and air-conditioned. All rooms are en-suite and have satellite TV, direct dial telephones and safety deposit boxes. Rooms also have a kitchenette – and the cold fridge is particularly useful. Maid service is daily.

    The hotel is a mere 5 minute walk from the excellent beach and the restaurants and shops that make up this peaceful resort.

    The hotel also offers the following services and facilities (according to the brochure I picked up from reception) which I never needed to use:

    - children's pool
    - hydro-massage in the main pool
    - poolside snack bar
    - table games
    - children's playground
    - tennis
    - tour bookings
    - laundry service
    - private parking
    - babysitting

    Upon checking out, the manager transferred me to the port at Naxos Town in the hotel's minibus to catch my ferry to Paros. The transfer costs 2 Euros which is significantly cheaper than the 8 Euro taxi charge for the same journey.

    If you're staying in Naxos I would very strongly recommend this hotel, especially at the price I paid. During the course of my month of island-hopping this was the best hotel I stayed at and (apart from a cheap room in Tinos) also the cheapest place I stayed.

    Excellent location, excellent value!!!

    We stayed here for 10 days with a group of six people. We each had a room and the rooms all came out on a common but lovely designed patio with each room a french door leading out to this patio.
    I found the people running the hotel very nice, it is a family business and the care is excellent. Personal attention asurred.
    The breakfast was lovely and plentiful.

    The breakfast room looks out at the sea and over to the hill which has the Chora or Naxos town on it. It also looks out on the Portara and the foundations of the unfinished temple of Apollo on a little islet off the shore of the Chora. My first view of all this on the first morning was of such an overwhelming blue (of the sea)and white (of the houses) that I could not believe my eyes. The walk down from the hotel to the town is along the cliffs on a sandy path, the special thing about it is that the path is lying full of potsherds of ancient Naxos.
    But beware travellers, if the Greek authorities catch one out with some of this stuff in your rucksack one would be in very bad trouble!

    Victoria studios are situated in one of the most beautiful beaches of Naxos, Mikri Vigla. The 25 studios are A' class and thay have cuisine, private bathroom, and big balconies with view at the sea. They are ideal for family quiet vacation, and also for windsurfers, because sea is almost always windy.

    The flowers were lovely!
    by soccergrrl
    We spent three nights at this beautiful, casual yet elegant, friendly hotel that opened in 1998. George, the owner, and Julie, the manager (I think) are both friendly, helpful, pleasant people who truly want everyone to be as comfortable as possible. The rooms are comfortable, the meals delicious, and George and Julie can help you with just about anything you might need (car rental, taxi, etc.). In case you forgot yours, the hotel lobby with its comfy couches has guidebooks and maps for you to look over.

    I can't recommend Villa Marandi highly enough!

    George, whose background is in computer consulting and engineering, told us he wanted to design a hotel based on what he and his employees would like to find when they went on vacation. He has done a fine job creating that, and I'm sure it will only get better as time passes. They have a small beach a stone's throw from the villas, an excellent restaurant where they feature local foods and wines, and a lovely pool/bar area. But perhaps the truly unique feature of Villa Marandi is its extended family of cats. They number about 35 now and while not exactly pets, niether are they the wild creatures you find elsewhere in Greece. We loved them all!

    Hotel Dimitra: Great value hotel in Agios Prokopios

  • Hotel Dimitra, Agios Prokopios - Naxos Island
    Hotel Dimitra, Agios Prokopios
    by SWFC_Fan, 4 more photos
    Hotel Dimitra is a very good value budget hotel in the beach resort of Agios Prokopios.

    I think the most important thing to tell you about this hotel is that it cost just 10 Euros (6.81 GBP) per night for an en-suite single room in May 2006. I booked a 7 night stay here via www.hostelbookers.com

    Hotel Dimitra is located next to Hotel Agios Prokopios (see other tip) and is in fact owned by the sister of the guy who owns Hotel Agios Prokopios. I stayed at Hotel Agios Prokopios in September 2005 and was about to book a room there again when I spotted the tempting low price on offer at Hotel Dimitra.

    Location:

    Hotel Dimitra is located just off the main road of Agios Prokopios. It is a 5 minute walk to the wonderful sandy beach and just a 2 minute walk to the closest tavernas, cafes and mini markets. There is also a travel agency, a car hire place, a snorkelling equipment hire shop and a pharmacy within a 2 minute walk of the hotel.

    Agios Prokopios is 6km from Naxos Town and is connected by regular buses (1.20 Euros each way) or taxis (6 Euros each way / 8 Euros with luggage), or you can walk there in a little under an hour.

    Room:

    The bedroom was clean and well-furnished. It was similar in appearance to the bedroom at Hotel Agios Prokopios. My room had a double bed, air conditioning (which didn't actually work, but wasn't necessary in May), satellite TV, a fridge, a wardrobe, a wooden desk, a table and chairs, a kettle, bedside cabinets and lamps, an outdoor terrace and a small en-suite shower room.

    Hotel facilities:

    The hotel wasn't officially "open" at the time of my visit. The reception area was never open and I collected my key and paid my bill at the neighbouring Agios Prokopios Hotel. Although the hotel has no facilities on site, I imagine (given the common family ownership and proximity of location) that guests can use the swimming pool, breakfast area and Internet facilities of the Agios Prokopios Hotel. You'd better check this for yourself first though!

    I would summarise the pros and cons of this hotel as follows:

    Pros:

    * A quiet location and close to a wonderful beach;

    * Excellent value for money;

    * Well furnished bedrooms and en-suite shower rooms.

    Cons:

    * Lots of mosquitoes in my room. There were dozens of mosquitoes in my room every night. As many as I swatted with a newspaper each night, it made no difference as more came in through the shutters on my window each day. I didn't get bitten by them, but they kept me awake most nights. I would have given this hotel 4/5 if it wasn't for the presence of so many mosquitoes.;

    * Lack of maid service. My bin was emptied every 2 days, but my bed sheets and towels were never changed during my stay. I did receive enough towels for 2 people at the start of my stay, so it wasn't a major problem;

    * Air conditioning didn't work. This was probably specific to my room, and I didn't need it anyway in May, but it would be a problem in the height of summer. It may have been that the air conditioning only functions when the hotel is properly open for business.

    A good value hotel in a peaceful beach resort. If you can get a room for 10 Euros, do so!! I'd probably pay a little extra for a room at Agios Prokopios Hotel next time.

    This was the view from the porch of our hotel room at Colosseo, showing the beach of St. George. We paid something like 25 or 30 Euros per night, which seems pretty amazing considering how close we were to the beach. I never saw any hotels on Naxos that were right on the beach. This was about as close as they got, but I'm certainly not complaining.

    OK so while we were on Tinos we had a very bad storm but it had only really been for two days and by the tme we got to axos we had really not thought about it again. So when we were taken to our hoelon Naxos we were surrised that the room was not ready for us. They told us to wait and then they got on the phone. Well we decided to nip out to the supermarket next door and get things for a picnic lunch. We hada good lok around the shop and then went back to the hotel. The travel agent who should have met us at the harbour was there waiting for us. The hotel was closed because of water damage from the storm and he had arranged an upgrade to another hotel. He had his car there and took us to the new hotel - The Naxos Royal Beach Hotel.

    It is a 4 star hotel wih buildings arranged around lovel pool and beautiful gardens. We had 3 nights of luxury there, the roo waslarge with a huge bed, a big balcony overlooking te gardens and pool. Breakfast was in the main building and was fantastic - so much choice. The people at reception were so friendly and helpful - especially Despina who was fantastic. It was a 10 minute walk from the town centre, acouple of minutes from St George Bay and easy to get out of town with the hire car.

    I couldn't really believe my eyes either. VT member SWFC_Fan (aka Jonathan) had pushed for this hostel with the highest of praises. (Are you on commission, mate?) The pictures on its website really does not do it enough justice. The place is gorgeous for its price!

    The young host (Kavouras Vagelis) and his Mrs. were gregarious, helpful and cheery. For good reasons - the place was almost fully packed! He actually run 3 setups together, all gathered in one location and this is the most economical of the 3.

    The first thing that struck me was gosh, I must have stepped into the wrong place, for it felt more like a resort, than a hostel. Plush gardens of figs, bougainvilleas and cannas surround the compounds. The swimming pool was stunning, despite the slightly petite size of it. The grounds are immaculate and meticulous and you are just a 10 minutes walk from groceries, restaurants, tour agencies and of course, Agio Prokopios Beach.

    For a price, you can also use the small Internet station and include in a buffet breakfast of cereals, eggs, toast, ham, yoghurt and coffee/tea.

    Plus port transfer was part of the package.

    What more can a cheapskate ask for? (GRIN)

    Even the room was probably one of the best rooms I ever had for the price of a hostel room. You get your own washroom/toilet. Very comfortable, bright and clean and you get your own (satelite) TV! (Amen!)

    MY ONLY NOTE OF WARNING:
    WATCH OUT FOR THE MOZZIES!! Kamikaze grade!!
    Please lock up all windows and doors after 6pm and turn on the air con! The night belongs to these critters and unless you love the idea of donating blood to the needy, don't allow yourself to be sucked dry!
