If you are looking for quiet self catering studios with lovely seaview in an unspoilt area of Naxos, this is for you. It's only a 2 minute walk to the shop that sells fresh bread and everything that one might need on a holiday, 2 minutes to the bus station around the corner from the studios, 5 minutes to one of the few restaurants, 5 minutes to a car hire place, 5 minutes to a travel agent and 10 minutes to one of the two great beaches.
A wonderful place to get away from it all and chill!
If you want an affordable, clean, friendly, quiet and convenient place to sleep while visiting Naxos, I highly recommend this little group of rooms.
Al Mare is located just 50 metres from the centre of Naxos town and only 10 meters from the sandy beach of Saint George. All rooms of Al Mare are fully equipped with fridge, air conditioning, TV, hair dryer, wireless internet connection and balconies or verandas with panoramic view to the sea. Al Mare also disposes a reception area, sitting room with Satellite TV, cafeteria, lobby with wireless internet access, parking space and mini bus service. The blue-flag awarded beach of St George offers visitors not only a variety of water sports facilities, but also a choice of sea-side taverns and beach bars.
The owner, Vaggelis Katsaras will be waiting to take you to your room, no matter what time of the day or night your ship arrives! If you need anything, Vaggelis will be there to help make your holiday special.
The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. There is air conditioning and a fridge, hairdryer and private bathroom. My room had two single beds.
Breakfast is served in the cosy dining room by polite and friendly staff.
After breakfast, the beach is just a few metres away and the town of "Hora" is only 10 minutes walk.
l Mare is the perfect place for anyone who wants to be centrally located, but in a quiet and convenient spot.
Just tell Vagellis that Janet told you about his hotel!
There is a belief that first appearances are important. I used to be sceptical about this, but over the years I have discovered that this really is true.
We knew that from the moment that Dimitris, our host at Hotel Grotta, met us at the ferry port in Naxos, and welcomed us with a huge smile and welcomed us to 'his' island......that we would enjoy our stay.
He insisted that we get into his car, and loaded our luggage into the boot himself.. Tall, dark and handsome- he had already won us over- before even stepping into his establishment.
Painted a sunny shade of pale yellow, the hotel stands atop a hill, overlooking the port, with view over the sea, 5 minute walk from restuarants, port and the 'old' historical area of Naxos.
On arrival, we were directed into the cosy lounge area, before even checking in. Refreshments (tea, coffee, ouzo??) were offered, and Dimitri sat us down and placed a huge map of the island on the table. He then asked us what our interests were, and proceeded to point out various things and places that would interest us. It was a tremendous help, knowing a bit about the geography and history of the island so soon after arrival.
We then checked in, and were taken upstairs to our 2nd floor room. Perfect. Sunny, with a balcony that had a breathtaking view of the sea, and the famous Portara monument- standing proud on its own little island.
The room was not very large- but perfectly adequate- comfortable bed, clean soft linen, a dressing table, TV, minibar, fridge and sparkling clean bathroom. Plenty of packing space. Large doors lead onto the sunny balcony, which had a table and two comfortable chairs. We spent a lot of time here, enjoying the view- especially at sunset.
Food- ahhhhh! The breakfasts! I can't remember enjoying breakfast as much as we did here.
The hotel is family owned & run- so Mama cooks, and daughter Nicoletta serves. Buffet style- the choice was ...difficult. So much, so delicious, so perfectly presented. The dining room is bright and cheery, with checked table cloths & fresh flowers.
There is a sauna & spa in the basement- all very clean and modern.
The ambiance of this little hotel is very special. I believe that because it is family owned they take special pride in knowing that the guests feel appreciated. Mama & Papa are there to provide interesting stories about the island, and Dimitri & his sister were so helpful, providing us with any information that we needed. Dimitri organized a car for us- it was delivered within the hour.
The Hotel Grotta (Caves) is a wonderful choice if you are looking for comfort, good service, excellent food and very relaxed and friendly management. I recommend it without hesitation.
The views are very special-magnificent at sunset.
Proximity to main attractions (Venetian Castle, Archeological Museum,Old Market, port & tavernas) and a short seaside walk to Apollo temple.
Friendly family atmosphere.
We had a nice studio composed of just one room with a double bed, a kitchen and a bathroom. We were at the second floor with a little balcony where we could have breakfast thanks to the tiny blue table with two small chairs! The kitchen had not so many utensils (and this created some little problems cookin but nothing bad) but the view on the sea and the Portara was realy a dream! We were about 800 mt from the port and 5 minutes walking from the promenade and the quarter of Kastro.
The wonderful view on the sea and the Portara, the proximity to Naxos life, the studio was cleaned everyday.
I have been at Glaros Hotel for 12 days in 2008 summer.
It is a very nice and well kept hotel, the owner Alexander is very friendly and totally helpful. He gave us lots of good advices to make our stay better and better.
They arranged to come to take us for free at the ferry port as we were arriving at night from Athens.
Room was big enaugh and furnished with nice blue furniture, fully equipped with TV, safe box, air conditioning and a small fridge. All was very clean.
Breakfast consisted in a good variety of food: boiled eggs, bread, cheese, ham, jam, honey, fresh fruit, cake, tea or coffee and orange juice. It is served in the terrace at the first floor or in your own balcony.
I would raccomend you to choose the top floor room as the lower ones have some short building in front that keep you to see well the beach, but i had a second floor one and the view was still very very nice.
The walk to the center was about 5 minutes and on a easy paved road.
Great view and helpful staff. Very quiet location.
OK so while we were on Tinos we had a very bad storm but it had only really been for two days and by the tme we got to axos we had really not thought about it again. So when we were taken to our hoelon Naxos we were surrised that the room was not ready for us. They told us to wait and then they got on the phone. Well we decided to nip out to the supermarket next door and get things for a picnic lunch. We hada good lok around the shop and then went back to the hotel. The travel agent who should have met us at the harbour was there waiting for us. The hotel was closed because of water damage from the storm and he had arranged an upgrade to another hotel. He had his car there and took us to the new hotel - The Naxos Royal Beach Hotel.
It is a 4 star hotel wih buildings arranged around lovel pool and beautiful gardens. We had 3 nights of luxury there, the roo waslarge with a huge bed, a big balcony overlooking te gardens and pool. Breakfast was in the main building and was fantastic - so much choice. The people at reception were so friendly and helpful - especially Despina who was fantastic. It was a 10 minute walk from the town centre, acouple of minutes from St George Bay and easy to get out of town with the hire car.
We spent a week in the Saint George hotel, and we must say that its location is perfect, just a few meters away from the sea, and 5-minute walk from Naxos city centre. The view from our balcony was soo nice (see pics).
The staff is very friendly and they drove us to the port on the day of our departure, even if it was not included in the hotel deal. Good price.
The hotel il very humble, the furniture of our room was a little bit old and damaged, but we saw that it was much better in other rooms.
The only problem was that we could not pay by credit card because the son of the owner was off the day we checked out, and nobody else could use the EFT device.
Before our trip i was doing quiet big research work, because i was worried where we gonna stay while visiting islands.
Finnaly we made the right choice, we didnt made any pre-booking and i suggest you to do the same.
On each arrive at every port there is group of locals who r advertising hotels, hostels, apartaments, rooms, etc. Even we arived to Naxos at 4 am it still took just 5 minutes to choose the place for stying.
The room was very big with its own kitchenette. A nice sized bathroom. I had a little deck off my room that was nice to sit out and read while getting some sun. It is run by two brothers that are extremely nice. They picked me up from the ferry and drove me to the hotel while pointing out things to do. The hotel is located litterally right across the street from the beach. I was very impressed and will definately recommend this place to others and stay here again.
A nice little pension about a 20 minute walk from the port. I paid 20 euro and my room had ac/heat, tv, and a double bed.
The pension has a small common area that consists of a table and a couple of chairs on a balcony that has water views.
One downside is that there is a church right across the street and some mornings the church uses its loadspeaker to project the singing - if you can call it that - into your window. The church bells are also quite load so if you stay there ensure you close your window and shutters the night before you go to sleep.
Instead spend an extra 5 euro and go to Pension Irene II which has a pool and is not located right next to the church.
The pension has pickup from the port - I rode on the back of the owner's son's scooter for the 5 minute trip.
My coworker and I shared a room here for 3 days. The hotel was a very easy and short walk from the beach. It was actually much closer to the beach than most other hotels. The staff was very helpful and so attentive that they even noticed when I didn't attend breakfast one morning!
My only complaint was the price, but they gave us a discounted rate for a 3 bedroom since there were only two of us (the last room available), so I can't complain too much. Still its pricey....even for the high season!
EXTREMELY CLOSE TO THE BEACH AND HAS A GREAT POOL!
MARINA STUDIOS IS SITUATED IN A QUIET AREA NEAR THE SANDY ST GEORGE 'S BEACH(200 METERS) AND NEAR THE CENTER OF THE TOWN (200 METERS).
All rooms have:
Balcony or terrace
It is not far from a big supermarket and it is close to the main road that brings you to the other beautiful beaches of Naxos (Agia Anna, Plakia, Mikri Vigla...).
I recommend this accomodations to couples and families because it is good for price and quality.
The studios and apartments are very confortable, nice, all equipped with new fornitures and they are also very clean.
Daily cleaning of the room and also of the pottery (!!!) and daily change of the towels.
The owners of the studios will pick you up directly at the seaport and if necessary will take you back there with your luggages when you leave.
The owners has also a good restaurant ("the good heart") in the Chora.
Ikaros is a family hotel which offers accommodation all year.
It is situated in a quiet corner near the city of Naxos (800m)
and very close to the saint George beach (300m). Moreover,
it is easily accessible from the airport,
being only 1,5 km away from it. This unique location enables
our guests to combine entertainment along with relaxation.
Ikaros has been designed to satisfy the needs
of its guests, you can take your coffee with a view of our
beautiful garden or take a refreshing swim in our pool.
All our studios have a spacious bathroom, telephone, satellite television, radio,
fully equipped kitchen, fridge, air-condition, safety box and a big balcony.
We stayed here for 10 days with a group of six people. We each had a room and the rooms all came out on a common but lovely designed patio with each room a french door leading out to this patio.
I found the people running the hotel very nice, it is a family business and the care is excellent. Personal attention asurred.
The breakfast was lovely and plentiful.
The breakfast room looks out at the sea and over to the hill which has the Chora or Naxos town on it. It also looks out on the Portara and the foundations of the unfinished temple of Apollo on a little islet off the shore of the Chora. My first view of all this on the first morning was of such an overwhelming blue (of the sea)and white (of the houses) that I could not believe my eyes. The walk down from the hotel to the town is along the cliffs on a sandy path, the special thing about it is that the path is lying full of potsherds of ancient Naxos.
But beware travellers, if the Greek authorities catch one out with some of this stuff in your rucksack one would be in very bad trouble!
This was a nice, although modest hotel. Everything was very clean and the manager was very helpful.
He picked us up from the ferry completely free and drove us back to the hotel and then back to the ferry when it was time for us to go.
The room wasn't big but it was comfortable and cozy. The shower had no shower curtain :)
Our friends got a room next to us and they had a lovely balcony.
The hotel is close to few decent restaurants and bars. We weren't there long, but if I came to Naxos again, I would not mind staying in Rea another time.
