Between Oia and Imerovigli
My wife and I are staying on Santarini from the end of May to early June.
We have locked in Oia as the area to stay.
We have also narrowed down to 3 places to stay -
1. Nikos Villas
2. Canava II
3. Perivolas (this is the one we both like the look of the most)
$$$ not a real factor, as anything in Oia is $$$
Has anyone stayed at either of these places ?
Any comments / feedback would be appreciated.

You've made the right choice to stay in Oia! It's spectacular. I don't know anything about the three places you mention, but wanted to say we loved our hotel: Oia Mare Villas. Enjoy!

Going from Melbourne, Australia to London
Staying London for 2 nights
Then flying London to Athens,
then fly from Athens to Santorini.
8 nights in Oia.
Then fly back to Athens
1 night in Athens.
Then it's back to London for the flight to Bangkok.
2 nights Bankok.
Then it's time to go home (booooo !!!!!)
I hope someone has some info on the 2 hotels - prob does not matter too much, they all look good - be it in Oia or anywhere on Santorini (although Oia looks like to pick of the places to stay).

p.s. Going back to Bali again in April - 11 nights (sort of business ... have a small tour company there).

Oh, Geoff, that sounds fantastic! Although eight nights in Santorini is a long time . . . I hope you are looking forward to really relaxing and not doing much of anything. There is plenty to do on the island, of course, but it's a very small island! :-) Have you seen the webcams at http://www.santorini.net/130.html? The village where they are situated is just down the road from OIa.
Will your flight from London be during the day? We flew from NY to London to Athens, and departed London mid-morning. The views over the alps were spectacular! (Of course, you also need clear weather to enjoy this . . . )
Yes - we are flying from London to Athens around lunch time, so maybe a great view.
The flight to Thira arrives around 7.30pm
If we run out of things to do on Santorini, then we can always go and visit another island.

I bet you are taking the same flight we did, then. I hope you get clear weather and a window seat!
Visiting another island would be exactly my suggestion should you feel restless on Santorini. However, with some of the local cuisine and wine, a chair with a view, and a stray cat or dog to pat once in awhile, one might stay happily relaxed on Santorini.
I'll be in Oia from May 12 to June 7. Maybe we'll meet! Look for the Yank with the big grin on his face!
You may call abroad and domestic using special cards. You can buy it in many shops. For about 5 Euro you have about 2 - 3 hours when calling in Europe or US.
What is important:
1. When using street booths (boxes, kiosks) you must remember that they are public. It means that you may talk not more than 40 minutes during one call becasue everyone has a right to talk as it is public phone.
2. There are usually long queues, especially in the evening, so you need to patient.:)
After viewing the sunset we were supposed to meet our VT friends for dinner at the Sunset Restaurant in Ammoudi. Ammoudi is the small port for Oia at the bottom of the cliff. As I mentioned before we decided to take a bus and not hike to Oia. However it was obvious as we looked over the cliff to Ammoudi that we still had to do quite a hike to get there. As a matter of fact there were 300 steps down the cliff to Ammoudi.
Oia is a magical little spot on the right side (as you look out from Santorini) of the caldera. The big draw here for a lot of people to walk out and catch the sunset on the steep cliff and the ruined castle. You'll be joined by thousands of other fellow sun worhshippers who grow quietly awed by this beautiful spectacle. Crowded? Touristy? Yes! But still very nice to see.
